The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Elom has said his administration would make the medicine programme the pride of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor made this known yesterday when staff of the College of Medicine led by the Provost, Professor Paul Ezeonu paid him a courtesy call.

He said: “Medicine will be the pride of this university. In Europe and America, universities are known for particular disciplines



“We are going to do the same thing here by fortifying the College of Medicine to make it the best in the country before I leave.”

The Vice-Chancellor also assured them of his commitment on the tasks ahead, adding that he was focused on the job, and thanked the staff of the College for pledging their support to his administration.

He further noted that under his watch the University would endeavour to establish Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing programmes in the first instance, stressing that the provision of well-furnished office blocks for staff accommodation would also be a top priority.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Ezeonu had assured the Vice-Chancellor of their maximum support, and prayed for the success of his administration.

“We want to assure you of our maximum support. We will be praying for you”, and enjoined the Vice-chancellor to be focused and never to look back as he strives to make a mark in the University.



While also speaking at the event, Professor J. N. Nwankwo called on the Vice-chancellor to focus more attention on the College of Medicine to make it a reference point in the country. He further requested for the intervention of the Vice-Chancellor in the provision of more laboratory equipment and well-furnished office accommodation and the proper remuneration of non-medically qualified staff of the College.
