The disadvantage of processing Shea Nuts into Shea Butter in Europe or Asia is the transport costs because the raw material can only be gotten in Africa. To produce 1 kg of Shea Butter, you need 2.2 kg Shea Nuts, so as you understand, it is much cheaper to produce Shea Butter in Nigeria with easy access to the raw material. Staff costs here are also lower.

Exportation is very profitable: While importers lament bitterly due to the embarrassing forex quagmire, exporters are the ones who smile – no, laugh – to the bank considering the naira to dollar exchange rate. More people are realizing this and the business is booming.

How To Ensure The Quality Of Goods You’re Buying Locally, Exporting, Or Importing Meets International Standards

A lot goes into every international trade transaction; from product sourcing to logistics, payment security, and much more. But while there are attractive profitable opportunities to explore, there are also great risks involved, and one risk that can cost you your entire investment is failing to ensure that the quality of the goods you’re exporting meets the export standard agreed between you and the international client.
Quality assessment is usually a great problem for a lot of exporters and managing this risk is key to building a profitable fast-growing international trade business, since meeting your obligations would help spread word of mouth. But when you fail to meet the quality standards specified, you wouldn’t just lose clients, but would also very likely lose your investment.

Now, what are the solution points? Join our Export training program to learn all the ways to ensure the quality of goods you are buying locally or Exporting meets International standards.

To sell a product, you need a market for it. Where is the demand? Is it stable? Is it profitable in short and long term? Are there trade barriers? In export, your market is a country or countries with a demand for your product. So, how does an exporter go about finding this market?

You can Begin on a Small Scale

Because you are doing it on a small scale, you do not need to register a company because you will be sending the food through an individual. The startup capital ranges between N150, 000 and N200, 000, as well as an e-mail address, a mobile phone, and an account with a reputable Nigerian bank.

However, having a domiciliary account is preferable; you don't need prior experience in the field, but you should have a "good head" for business organization.

An organization called the Association of Micro-Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (AMEN) can assist you in registering with NAFDAC. You can also use their factory site, which will help you run your business successfully.

How profitable is smoked fish business?

There is also export market for smoked fish. The project is also a step to strengthen the informal sector, which is the bed rock of any economy. Fish smoking is very lucrative and profitable. The return on investment is above 50percent and the project can pay back itself within one year of take-off.

Smoked fish is a popular ingredient in Nigeria as most people use it to enrich the taste of soups and cuisines. There has been a growing demand for smoked-dried fish outside Nigeria, especially in the US and Europe.

The high demand for smoked-dried fish abroad is as a result of the increased number of Africans living in the diaspora. As a result of this transcontinental migration and a growing appreciation for African flavors and food, smoked-dried fish has remained in high demand.

Therefore setting up a quality control centre for Exportable Agricultural commodity using Public- Private Partnership (PPP) strategy will be of immense benefit to this nation’s non-oil export businesses.

This centre should be saddled with the responsibility of promoting the export of good quality Agricultural products, training exporters and farmers on processing and preservation methods, inspecting the quality of items to be exported and issuance of a quality certificate.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should make this certificate part of the exchange control documents to be returned to the Banks after shipments in order to ensure
strict adherence.

If the non-oil export sector of the Nigerian economy can be given this type of attention, then we will be on our way to expanding our
Agricultural commodity export markets, creating more markets for farmers and ultimately boosting employment and the nation’s GDP.

Let's discuss Quality Assurance in International trade. Quality assurance is at the peak of the international trade business because international buyers want to know that the product they’re paying for is exactly or better than what they’re getting.
Not worse.
Since many international buyers cannot visit the loading port at the country of origin to verify the quality of goods before it is shipped, they need a strong assurance that guarantees them the quality of the goods that they have paid for before it arrives their port of delivery at their destination country.

Also, exporters sourcing goods need a form of assurance when purchasing the goods they want to export to ensure that the quality of the goods they’re buying will be exactly the same as agreed with the international buyer when an inspection is done at the port of loading.

Ginger as an agro product offers a lot of value chain. For ginger, untapped markets exist in Netherland, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Japan, Bangladesh, Canada, Malaysia, Germany, UAE and Italy. Estimated untapped potential is largest in the Dutch market with 4.5 million dollars of additional export to be reached up till 2021.

The Netherland and UK are very interesting. There is a lot of additional export potential there. Try to access new markets like Pakistan, Japan and Bangladesh. Also, keep trying to expand export in Germany and the UAE.
