Nigeria's foremost philanthropist, former Governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Imo West at Nigeria's 9th Senate, H.E. Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha will on Saturday 10th April 2021, at the Liberty Stadium be conferred with the prestigious award of " The Outstanding Friend of Ibadanland"

In a statement issued on behalf of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, HRM Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji (Aje Ogungunniso I) and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the award will cap the grand finale of the 2021 Ibadan Cultural Festival Celebrations.

The statement reads in part " We in Ibadan have decided to celebrate you now and outside your territory so as to show you that Ibadan has created a deserved permanent place for you in her territory. You are most deserving of this honour by virtue of your establishment of Rochas Foundation College first at Oke Ado Ibadan and very recently at the Toll Gate, Ibadan/Lagos Expressway. This unique youth empowerment legacy of yours will remain indelible in our minds till eternity. It is also a testimony to the fact that you have what it takes to reposition our great country"

It will be recalled that over 20 years ago, Sen. Okorocha established the Rochas Foundation Colleges across the length and breath of the country specifically in Sokoto, Zaria, Yola, Bauchi, Kano, Ibadan, Calabar, Enugu, Owerri and Ogboko (Imo state). The colleges provide free education for children of indigent backgrounds. At his 55th birthday he added the Rochas Foundation College of Africa, Owerri admitting 5 students from each of the 55 African countries providing them also free education.

These colleges in Nigeria have produced over 6000 graduates from all walks of life ( engineers, doctors, lawyers, military and police officers, etc) with the college in Ibadan accounting for over two thousand graduates.

He might be a criminal, but the award is well deserved

He gave many poor people quality education for free, with feeding and free uniform, he even gave them one ugly Caterpillar looking school bus for free transport
