Boris Johnson and Keir Starmer both BACK AstraZeneca jab as 'safe' and urge people to take up second dose, after decision not to give it to under-30s over link to rare blood clots suffered by 79 people out of 20MILLION doses The Government, opposition politicians and medical experts were tonight rushing to shore up confidence in the AstraZeneca vaccine after health chiefs ruled it should not be given to Britons under the age of 30 - amid fears the move could damage the public's faith in the jab. Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock tweeted that the British-made vaccine was 'safe' and that the benefits far outweighed the risks for the vast majority of adults, while Labour leader Keir Starmer said he was 'looking forward' to getting his second dose. It came after the Government's vaccine advisory group ruled today that people aged between 18 and 29 should be offered an alternative to AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine while experts continue to investigate its link to rare blood clots. A review by the drugs watchdog the MHRA found that by the end of March, 79 out of 20million Britons vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine had suffered deadly blood clots in the brain or arteries, a rate of about one in 250,000. Nineteen of the cases died and three were under the age of 30. Slides presented at a press conference announcing the change in guidance today showed that younger people are more prone to blood clots after vaccination than older groups. That doesn't even concern me. Not taking any vaccine. I roamed the street of Lagos from the island to the mainland (mostly ikotun) to ota during the pandemic. I still didn't have the virus or heard any friends and family who had COVID-19. I don't believe it exists.(my opinion) Speaking for myself. 3 Likes |
