As Twitter announces it will base its Africa operations in Ghana, it is apt that we remind ourselves that it's biggest rival, Facebook Africa has been on the continent since 2015 and is headquartered in Bryanston, Johannesburg in South Africa.

“When we started we were maybe five employees,” says Nunu Ntshingila, regional director of Facebook Africa, but is hesitant to divulge the current staff-compliment as employees are mobile, often traveling overseas or working from home.

The offices also serve as a place where international Facebook staff travel to when working in Africa.

She says their staff is working in several areas, including development, advertising, policy, and social well-being.
