Officialhorlah: It's obvious the government is getting broke, if not they should have done it short term, by the time these bonds mature inflation would have eaten into them and the buyers of these bonds either loose their monies or have it stagnant. The country is not stable enough to earn investors trust, also the government has succeeded in borrowing to the limit. Truth is Nigerian Government bonds (treasury bills) are no longer profitable as they used to be, people would rather invest in properties or stocks or even bitcoin. But what do I know 2 Likes |

Aaa007:It means the government is heavily indepted and is issuing bonds for interest, ie the government's way of borrowing money from the people to pay back with interest. So how exactly is that 9ice. You people should learn to read. |

walcruise: It’s simply another form of BORROWING money (DEBT)... Eg, government (or a company) can issue a 7-year N100b bond, which is bought by investors (aka “bond holders”).. During the 7 year term, the issuer (ie, the government or company) will pay interest (called a “coupon”) to the bond holders. At the end of the 7 years (or Term), the Issuer will buy-back the bonds (called “Redemption”) for N100b (the “Principal” amount). There can many different provisions (eg, “puts” or “calls”, among others), but the foregoing are the vanilla BASICS of bond issuance. > 3 Likes |

atarapa:It's one of the government's way of borrowing money from the people and with interest. So if you buy into a 5 years government bond with 2% interest with 10 million, it simply means the government will pay you 2% of your 10 million for 5 years and at the maturity date your 10 million will be given back to you. They might just print more money or devalue the Naira again to pay back, Nigeria is in a financial crisis. 1 Like |

This invitation to treat gives me the creeps... It bears all the hallmarks of a scam riddled investment offer! 1. Closest mature date is 2027! When this untrustworthy government would have long squandered the proceeds and disappeared into thin air... 2. With the attendant political instability and agitations for dismemberment of Nigeria, if the country dissolves before the date of Bond maturity, who shall investors hold for their payments? In any case, all investments are risks... 1 Like |
