The embattled former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has said that there is nothing wrong for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arresting him to answer some questions arising from numerous petitions against him.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday night by Okorocha’s Special Adviser (Media), Sam Onwuemeodo. The senator, representing Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate, also accused the Imo State government of fuelling his ordeal via petitions written against him to the anti-graft agency, noting that as a result, legal actions instituted against the commission were pending at various courts.

The statement, which was released following the phone calls put to the Senate Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism’s Media Aide, said: “We have been inundated with calls by media houses and concerned Nigerians and beyond, trying to confirm the reported invitation of Rochas Okorocha by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission later today, being April 13, 2021.

“The truth is that Okorocha left as the governor of Imo State on May 28, 2019. And shortly after his exit as governor, Imo State government wrote petitions upon petitions against him.

“The EFCC investigated the petitions and had been in various courts of the land with Okorocha to that effect.

“At the end of the day, we would know whether the commission will be withdrawing the cases in courts or continue with them.”
MEANWHILE, a group, Igbo Youths For Equity, has accused the EFCC of allowing itself to be used as a tool for political witch-hunt, following the arrest of Okorocha.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Captain Izundu Marcel, the group expressed concerns over “attempts by some highly placed politicians from outside Igboland to frustrate the Igbo presidency agenda.”

It said that Igbo youths would not sit idly while some interests continue to allegedly single out their key leaders for humiliation.

“We are concerned that over the last two years, there seems to have been deliberate attempt by a group of political hawks from outside Igboland to humiliate and demoralise key leaders from Igboland whom they consider as threats to their ambition.

Even if he actually stole, the arrest is politically motivated because if he is in the same table with them they wouldn't have remembered him for now.

This people have inferiority complex. Look at what is selling to his people - because I am an igbó man that is why they are doing it to me.

This administration tackle some northerners: Dansuki. But the same igbó people gang up and say things. What if Dansuki was an igbó man, what would they have said?

The Shaite man was arrested becauae he is a religion fanatic: a Muslim. They still shout, then I ask, what if he was a Christian? They would tell us Buhari wanted to islamise Nigeria.

A former governor of Katsina, jailed, a former governor of Plateau jailed. What of if they were southerners? They would tell us it was because they were from the south.

Metu was released recently by a court, then I ask, what of he was a northerner? They will say Buhari release him because he is from his side.

Oga face the music and don't bring the whole igboland into this. As governor you thought you were untouchable, you spoke any how, treated Imolites any how, build unnecessary structures here and there but abandoned the key areas you needed to touch. Look at the massive gully close to your village Ogboko, Umueshi it has cut off the road that road users now have to ply inside the villages in order to get to their destination. Every year they allocate money for frivolous spending mean while roads are begging to be fixed, Douglas market was begging for renovation and all he could do was speaking silly English and Hausa. This man is no Igbo man, Uzodimma never start with you yet, you must slim down by force. This is a warning to those leaders that think they can act anyhow while in power, remember nothing last forever. Time will either remove you or death will.

This is likely politically motivated. Why now? EFCC turned a blind eye to all the petitions written against him for years. Until now their is crises in his home state where the governor is blaming some Imo politicians as been the cause .

I am not holding brief for any of our politicians that contributed to the mess that Nigeria is in today. They all should be prosecuted and jailed ASAP. But having an anti-corrosion crusade that is selective is counter productive. In the end it will make a mockery of the system. Watch how this case will end...
