BarristerAlarig:It's annoying. The last episode of "the resident", a US Medical drama was about how the best Nigerian healthcare workers leave. They know they are creating a humanitarian crisis. They just don't care. We don't have a leadership that looks out for Nigerian interests. |

Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by CSTRR: 5:44pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
Abeos:Yes, the govt have to reward health care workers very well. That is non-negotiable. But sometimes, most of what drives this Exodus of health care workers from Nigeria is greed. They want to paid like their counter parts in the UK and that is not possible atleast for now. The UK GDP is three times the Nigerian GDP. And their population is also atleast three times less too. Healthcare workers can't earn the same. They must accept that. |
Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by DrObum(m): 5:45pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
CSTRR:After doing all that, you'll continue owing the health workers abi. My brother, life works on demand and supply, if our govt pay health workers well, very few would run abroad. You think people actually love to leave their culture and go start afresh in a strange land? Or you want to lock people down and allow only the elites pack their children abroad? 6 Likes |

CSTRR:I thought you will use this energy to talk on how our govt can improve our healthcare system and appreciate our healthcare workers. The fact that they go on strike at all time makes the situation shameful and disgraceful . This stupid govt would rather pay millions of Naira paying to bandit & ex Boko haram fighters than pay doctors and nurses good salaries and allowances . So, Pls spare us ur useless sermon .Nigeria is gone and a mockery to the black race . 6 Likes |

BarristerAlarig:You still believe the story that medical education is subsidized in Nigeria? Have you met medical students? What exactly does the government do for them that is subsidized? They pay money for every f**king thing. They pay like every other student, so where's the subsidy? 2 Likes |

DrObum:I am not saying we should owe health care workers. That is treason too. But you cannot earn like a doctor in Dubai or the UK. That is the economic reality. You just have stay and serve your people that trained you and subsidize your education with their taxes. That is patriotism. 1 Like |

omoharry:So we should allow all our health care workers to leave and allow poor Nigerians to die for due to inadequate health care ? Who do you think you are doing? The politicians or the poor farmer in the village? We can all agitate for better remuneration for health care workers. That is fair. But it doesn't change the fact that greed drives most of the health care Exodus in Nigeria. |
Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by DrObum(m): 5:54pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
CSTRR:Why can't your govt poach their own too? Or even implement incentives to hold down the ones here? Your minister for health said they have more than enough and adviced doctors to go into farming and tailoring. Doctors just returned from strike because some of them weren't paid for 4 months. 4 months of leaving your house daily, attending to people's lives and not being paid? Abia state owe some of them for 10 months, Imo state, 6 months and so on. That's the kind of place you would love to dwell? If those health workers were your kin and kith, would you advise they remain in such conditions as you preach above? 6 Likes 1 Share |
Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by CSTRR: 5:55pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
ENG0701:Yes. It is because they don't care about Nigerian interests that is why they owe health care workers. And that is why they don't care that foreign countries are stripping Nigeria dry of skilled hands. |

Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by CSTRR: 5:58pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
DrObum:I can understand the grievances. I won't begrudge any health care workers that leave to be honest. But I have a problem when foreign countries actively promote this parasitism and make it very easy. That is declaration of war. It is terrorism. It has increased the rate of poaching to an unprecedented rate. 2 Likes |

CSTRR: I just dey laugh you. It's good to be a patriot but who does that help when the government that you are campaigning for don't eve give a hoot about the health care sector. Hazard allowance for nurses in Nigeria which is paltry at 5k can't be paid, the government have been deducting their salaries for years promising to use it to build apartment for them has not materialized and you don't want them to seek greener pastures. In as much as they are going legally, I (sadly) support them to better their well-being. Look, migration is everywhere. Even Doctors and Nurses of UK origin are migrating to Australia, USA, and Canada where the pay is better than the NHS. Whatever profession, people always gravitate to where they can fulfill their potential with enough resources to cater for their family and friends and if your environment cannot guarantee that people will move to where that can be achieved. Look, that UN or WHO policy that warned that west should not endanger the health care sector of the Third world countries cannot hold sway because of so many factors. Even the WHO Director General Jakpa from his own country to find a better life abroad. I am tired of typing jor...,. cheers bro!!! 6 Likes |

Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by DrObum(m): 6:01pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
CSTRR:Which education did they subsidies? The medical students that lived off campus paying their own rent? Or the ones that paid for reagents to be bought for them to do worthy practicals? Or the ones that transport themselves daily to the teaching hospitals for posting? Or the ones that pay heavily to be inducted into their different professional bodies? See, the lie of govt subsidizing medical school has been long exposed. Except the generation of Chris Ngige, Adewole, Ahmadu Ali and Co that had free meals, were transported around for posting, had car loans, govt does nothing now. Are you aware that when medical and nursing students are sent to rural areas for their postings, in many schools, they cater to all their needs including accommodation in those rural areas? So, what exactly does the govt do for them? 1 Like |
Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by NaMe4: 6:02pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
CSTRR: Bro, no healthworker in Nigeria demands to be paid same as their counterparts in UK or any other Western nation. The condition of service and corruption in the system is just simply appalling. Most live hand to mouth under terrible working conditions and are expected to deliver services at global standards? That's a joke! (But they actually do to the best of their ability and resources available). Most just want to practise, be happy and live as normal humans should. |

Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by DrObum(m): 6:10pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
CSTRR:Sir, I can bet you no Nigerian health care worker compares their pay and expects to be paid like their counterparts in western nations. Of course, the standard of living isn't the same, the economy isn't the same. They compare their lives to the very people in our own society who live on public funds and yet do nothing. They compare the quality of life accruable to the leaders and then see the disparity with themselves who everyone expects to slave it out for nothing. After the 1984/85 mass exodus of health workers (of course during the time of this same man), there was a handful of returns when other leaders came and improved their working conditions a bit. Were they being paid like their counterparts abroad? No! Yet they returned because they could make a living from what they were paid. 2 Likes |

Re: How To Be A Nurse In UAE by CSTRR: 6:15pm On Apr 17, 2021 |
ENG0701:It's not necessarily patriotism. Its self interest. I don't want my health care workers to be the least smart among them. The remnants that were not intelligent enough to pass PLAB1 and 2. When the best we have have all gone to Dubai and the UK. Every Nigerian that cannot afford foreign healthcare should have that same self interest. 1 Like |

CSTRR: "That is patriotism" You must be living in an Edenic Nigeria of your own making for you to come up with that "patriotism" ideology. Patriotic to whom? Patriotism to a country which doesn't care if you are living or not. You can only talk of being patriotic to a government which have a good plan for your life from birth to death. And that government is certainly not existing in present day Nigeria. |
