However, over the years and its eventual video release, the Motral Kombat movie began to acquire cult status among fans of the video game. Contrary to adaptations like Street Fighter a year earlier, Paul WS Anderson’s film had respected the visual concept of early video games and mythology.

16 years later (it would have been 15, but the pandemic happened), a new adaptation comes from the hand of Warner Bros. who now own the franchise through the Warner Games subdivision. This new Mortal Kombat movie is a much more faithful adaptation to the video game than the 1995 version.
