Founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Atedo Peterside on Tuesday said the late nationalist Moshood Abiola was not given the chance to deliver on his promise as a change agent, Igbere TV reports.

He stated this while discussing national issues with the former director-general, Bureau of Public Service Reforms Joe Abah on Twitter.

Abah had first said:
“Until we change our Constitution and restructure our governance system, the discontent in the land, the distrust between constituent parts, and the focus on sharing rather than production will continue. It doesn’t matter who comes in 2023, 2027 or 2031, nothing will change.”

https://twitter.com/DrJoeAbah/status/1383682413151227911?s=20

Peterside reacted:
“But we are unlikely to be able to change the Constitution unless we have a President and Political Party in power that believe in this project. I think that makes who leads us come 2023 doubly important and not the other way around. If you want change then elect a Change Agent.”

https://twitter.com/AtedoPeterside/status/1384106929882951687?s=20

Abah responded that Nigeria’s current political system was unlikely to allow a change agent to emerge.

Peterside then brought him Abiola into the discourse, describing him as a change agent who had his own resources and was supported by corporate Nigeria. “He gave us hope,” he said.

A Twitter user @bio_jibril countered, saying Abiola could not be regarded as a change agent.

“You can’t judge a man on what he planned but didn’t get the medium to implement it,” he wrote.

Then Peterside replied:
“The point being made is that MKO was voted for on the basis of the fact that he convinced us that he was the Change Agent that we desired at the time + he came via an existing Party. Nobody said that he delivered on the promised change. We never got a chance to test him on that.”

Bobo Chicago should learn from history Instead of sharing JAGABA SACHET RICE.

They're smiling with him at his face but will stab him at the back before the election.

If MKO was here, he would have warned the cocaine lover to drop his selfish ambition.

Nicely put sir.

Unlike the deceiver we have in AsoRock presently with no vision or direction.

Just a man hungry for power on a revenge vision...

I pity the next person who will take over power from this government though. ....God help the person.

Buhari and his cohorts have done a lot of damages to this nation, no jokes.

Interesting for those that didn't know
..Unlike some of us that were preview to some sensitive info.....MKO was not a Saint though but for the fact that his promises for better governance if given the mantle to be president was not tested then let's let sleeping dog lay.
BTW he had a reputation as a philanthropic minded person yet a political coup operations enabler that's to say he was a good man with bad intentions!

Buhari and his bunch of nepotism ridden politicians have beaten him to that with their con acts before and after getting to power.

We need a youth with visionary and empathy quality capabilities come 2023.

Abiola was not a change agent, he was part and parcel of the the corrupt oligarchy, not to mention his sympathies for radical, extremist Islam. Just that Nigerians are so easily deceived and brainwashed once you use the two keys of religion and tribalism.

He's very right. I'm baffled when the masses call any politician a hero. Abiola was a business man, first and the work of any business man is to recoupe lost investment, make everyone around him satisfied and make sure his interests are protected.

I guess people were sentimental cause he ran at a time of great tension when the military had promised for years they would hand over to civilian rule. People where desperate for anything even if it meant voting in a farmer from Ogun whose farm was bankrupt.

Politicians are as incorruptible as a fish can live outside water

Abiola was a philanthropist per excellence..., A very joyous-life loving typical Nigerian business man with great tentacles in government. Loved genuinely in every part of Nigeria when "donations" at "launchings" characterized infastructurall development in different communities across the country..Even Babangida, the president of the country was moving around competing with the Abiolas, the iwuanyanwus and the Fantasy on who will donate more at duh events..
But he also made a very big fatal mistake, just as Tinubu is making today.. He treated the east with a lot of disrespect politically... It didn't end well then for him, it won't end well for Tinubu today! Those who because of the events of the late 60s have decided to frame a majority ethnic group as a minority and hope to rule over them perpetually as a result, will always find out at the end of the tunnel, how wrong their political miscalculations were and how polarized the country has become as a result..

If MKO was indeed a change agent and he won an election, then it's actually possible for one to emerge.

However, look how th3 champions of Nigeria's political system "righted the wrong".

He was robbed, jailed and killed.

Moral of the story: we don't only need a change agent, we need someone who's not afraid to die for the change he/she hopes to achieve, because the system is ready to kill to avoid change.

Now, who's willing to step up to that?

The problem with you Igbos is you never look back to see if you are ever right or wrong n right from alamagamation Igbos have always been doing the most wrong, though u might not belive it.

Starting from Azikwe not having the union have different independence but can you believe igbo are not blaming him for that.

First coup in Nigeria, Igbos also do not want to be blamed for that though the coup plotter are over 80% Igbos n they also killed the northern n western premier who are not Igbos. The kill the prime Minister who is not Igbo as well but left the Igbo president n the igbo premier then told a senseless cock n bull story as to why they were unable to kill those.

I won't say too much about Abiola because they have the prerogative to vote whoever they want.

Then came to Ebele Jonathan, anyone not knowledgeable about the Nigeria political scene would have tot it was Igbos that gave him the presidency but far from it. Among the tribes in the South the Igbo contributed the least to enthroning Ebele Jonathan.

No one need to be told how the likes of Tunde Bakare, Gani Fawehnmi, 2 Yorubas led protest that took Ebele to the seat of power only to get there n Igbos turned his back on those that led him there but the rest now is history.

Now instead of Igbos to project their candidate they are busy insulting Tinubu Fashola n Osinbajo but like Yorubas always overlook thier antics because we know they are small fry in the scheme of thing those ones totally ignored them.

So you see Igbos call others betrayer but no tribe in Nigeria orchestrate betrayals like you. Such a selfish wicked n dubious set of humans, I love how Yorubas politicians have always kept you at arms length right from way back be it Awolowo Abiola n now Tinubu Osinbajo n Fashola.

You are too small to be of any relevance. All your grandstanding na for your papa pocket.
