Chairman, Yoruba Progressive Forum (YPF), Mr. John Oyelekan, has lamented that the Yoruba, who
have lived together with their Delta brothers from
pre-colonial times and under Western region are
not being properly integrated.

He spoke at the group’s meeting in Sapele, where he urged Delta State indigenes to recognize them. The chairman also said, “it is unfortunate that we are not even allotted a slot as councilors in the local government and our children who were born, bred and were educated here are not considered for any job or employment. “We see no reason we should not have their fair share from the state we have committed so much to by getting appointments and being elected into offices.”

He pointed out that as citizens with decades of long stay in Delta State, having registered for elections in the state to vote, “we should equally be voted for in the state as our dwelling place.
“Prominent Yoruba people living in Delta State have inter-marital relationship with Urhobos, Itsekiris, Ijaws, Isokos and Ndigbo in Delta beside that we spend over 90 per cent of our time and resources here and pay our taxes to the state government.

“Yoruba Progressive Forum is out to correct this anomaly as a non-indigene ethnic group with the greatest number in Delta State.” He pointed out that the Yoruba were pioneers in the development of many towns in the old Western region among which is Sapele.

I think they do. It's there large presence in Lagos that overshadows the reports of their migration elsewhere in Nigeria.

What an interesting story!
If there are enough Yoruba's in Sapele and many are more than first generation, then they should be allowed a councillorship.
I guess there must be even more in Warri, but it is totally impossible for any non-indegene to get a councillorship there.
