NCC Arrests 5 Suspects For Fraudulent Registration Of SIM Cards by Odewaleadesoye(m): 4:59pm On Apr 22
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has arrested no fewer than five suspects for allegedly engaging in fraudulent registration and sale of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.

The Director Public Affairs, NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the arrest was part of the commission’s routine enforcement activities to rid the industry of criminal elements.

Adinde said that the hitch-free operation was carried out by a team from the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department of the commission.

He added that the team jointly carried out the assignment with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

He said the suspects who were arrested in the Wuse area were subsequently handed over to the NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Wuse, Abuja, for further investigation.

NCC’s Head of Enforcement, Mr Salisu Abdu who led the joint routine enforcement exercise, also said it was meant to sanitise the industry by driving away criminal elements engaging in fraudulent registration of SIM cards.

He said pre-registering a SIM card was an offence punishable under relevant regulations in the telecom sector and constitutes a breach of national security.

“It is criminal and fraudulent to pre-register a SIM card in Nigeria and it is an offence punishable under the law.

“Though the Federal Government recently lifted the ban on sale of new SIM cards, it should be noted that proper registration of SIM cards and linking them to National Identity Number (NIN) before activation has now become a prerequisite.

“The enforcement activities will continue in other locations across the FCT and other states of the country,”
he said.

Abdu warned those who were engaged in the unlawful registration of SIM cards to desist from the illegal act.

He said the commission would continue to collaborate with relevant law enforcement agencies in order to rid the industry of individuals, who had resolved to contravene SIM registration regulations.

In the sane countries we want our country to be like, this is one of the ways they got to that great height.
USA couldn't have been a great country today without what they call their social security number, which each and every citizen must have.
If you commit any fraud or crime, or scam anyone, all your life is connected in one place.
Only in Nigeria that a man will commit a crime in Ibadan and run to Sokoto, and that will be the end of the case for years.....prolly forever!

More on NIN that Sane, good, honest and hardworking Nigerians should know.....

Nigerians home and abroad , kindly take note!

Imagine you walk into an Immigration office to apply for an international passport.
You are asked for information verifying your identity and you just give them a number and instantly the Immigration officials connect to the National Identity Database – all your required information appears on their computer screen.
They can only see information they are authorised to see.
Done, your identity is verified – no need to go get extra documents, spend more money, just to prove who you are.
That is the convenience provided by your NIN.
This is synonymous with Social Security Number (SSN), if you don't have that in some countries abroad, you will just be living like a corpse, without being able to do anything in life, a corpse will even be better than your as$!
It’s the same thing when you go to process a driver’s licence, you would only need to present your NIN and your identity would be verified.

This is how it is done in saner climes we all want to emulate.
We will surely get there someday soon.

God bless Nigeria.

But we have said it over and over again on this forum, that our posts here is only for sane minds.
We know you wailers and kids can never assimilate our posts due to the constant hatred you have for your country (the country you call a zoo).
An advice to you, next time, scroll over our post to the next post cos it is too deep for your brain.
That will be better for you rather than to develop migraine for nothing.
Please kindly take to this advice from the elders for your own good.
Nigeria will be great again whether you and your ilks like it or not.
Peace out!

About someone who is the first to type?
Shaking our heads!

@topic,

We want more of this , to prevent Nigerians from being scammed by fraudsters and criminals.

SECONDED.
After thorough investigation, if found guilty, he should be arrested or resigned honourably.

With all without Pantami, the NIN must go on with the next person coming in.

NIN is not Patamin's family business that will stop if he is removed, so do not get it confused.
NIN is not about a person but about our darling Country moving forward.

A better Nigeria is all we want.
A better Nigeria is what we shall get.
God bless Nigeria.

Addendum:
Notice to Fraudsters and Criminals : With or Without Pantami, According to Law, YOU MUST LINK YOUR SIM WITH YOUR NIN.
And save millions of Nigeria from being scammed and end kidnapping in our nation...... una hear?

They keep going after small criminals while big ones are walking freely, in a nation where justice is being served irrespective of class, tribe, religion Pantami would have been fired and arrested for prosecution by now.

Look at the way Nigeria government are jumping up and down because of SIM card but they were no where to be found during lockdown last year when people were dying of hunger instead of Covid-19.
