I think the major difference in both types that I can easily identify with is the presence or absence of slit pupils.

Venomous snakes have slitted pupils while Non venomous have non slitted and round pupils.

Whatever other difference is not so significant in the few heartbeats of life and death a human experiences while facing down a snake in Nigeria.

Totally wrong. Elapids (the family that includes cobras, kraits) and coral snakes have round pupils and are among the most venomous snakes

Really

Thought the round/slit pupils are sound differences

So what's your take?

Simple, avoid all snakes and let them have right of way. Even the non-venomous ones can bite and their bite can have bacteria

I'm a scientist and I love to know that bit of knowledge. It may come in handy. I know there are differences between venomous and non venomous snakes...and I will research till I am sure.

N.B: I made some research again and the rounded pupils vs slitted vertical pupils holds true on many websites.

Another feature is venomous snakes have a triangular head shape while non-venomous have a rounded head shape.

I'm good with these two, even though they are not enough and apply to some species not all.
