Majority of players on that list are not really long range goal scorers, and where is Marco van Bastien on the list, if you're talking about "in football history"

This one is hard o. But OP you omitted Gabriel Batistuta, that's sacrilege!

If long-range refers to shots scored from outside the 18-yard box, then Messi is the best as he has scored the highest number of these kind of goals since the late 20th century.

However, if you are referring to long distance shots scored from 25 yards and further away, the best is between Batistuta, Frank Lampard, CR7 and Steven Gerard. I believe Gerard just about pips it as he scored several memorable long-distance goals over a considerably long period of time e.g vs ManUtd in carling cup final and another one in 2006 FA cup final. In this category, my ranking would be:

5. Sneijder
6. Gareth Bale
