I lost everything –CAC pastor •How Influential politicians were protected by security operatives From AHMED OYERINDE, Sokoto Sunday, April 24, 2011 More Stories on This Section Post-presidential election violence in Sokoto has resulted in untold hardship for victims some of who lost valuables including real estate. Most of them are sojourners in the state. As at the time of filling this report, many sojourners were still taking refuge at a military barrack in the state and there’s heavy military presence in various parts of the state capital. For the resident Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Michael Kolawole Jesuleye, it was a horrible experience as he lost everything to the mayhem His words: “I was beaten to the state of coma by some unidentified youths who came to my house at about 12: 30am and set the Church ablaze. I lost property that took me several years to acquire. Right now I am in the barrack with my family taking refuge”. The rioters who were chanting war songs, Sunday Sun learnt caused havoc in several areas of Sokoto metropolis including Rijia, Emir Yahaya, Bello way, Tudun Wada, Old Airport and Sultan’s palace. During the mayhem, property owned by some influential politicians in the state were secured by fierce looking security operatives even as some irate youths made frantic efforts to set fire on the Sultan of Sokoto’s palace. Commercial activities have resumed in Sokoto state as security men have been stationed on all major roads and in troubled areas. Some residents who spoke to our correspondent commended the quick intervention of government. The Police spokesman in the state, ASP Al Mustapha Sani urged the public to go about their daily activities as police is committed to protect lives and property adding that no fewer than 45 suspects were arrested and would soon appear in court. |
