If you can, try to avoid purchasing those gimmicky cookbooks out there and stick with looking up free recipes or even creating your own. Being on a diet is hard enough as it is. The last thing you want to become is a victim to some Johnny-come-lately marketer, whose goal is to make money preying on dieters.

Too busy to exercise? Slip in a few short workouts here and there. Park further away from the grocery store or work, and take the stairs whenever possible. Rather than using a leaf blower or automatic mower, try sweeping your leaves and using a push mower. A few minutes here and there can really add up!

Almost everyone in the weight-loss community knows that your diet and lifestyle motivation has to come via the carrot and the stick. So while you may reward yourself for a job well done, and deservedly so, you should also punish yourself for missing a workout or indulging too much. Eat a meal of nothing but rice cakes as a punishment and you'll err no more.

Aerobic exercise will definitely help you lose weight, but you do not want to stick with cardio all the time. Make sure that you're always switching things up and are trying other types of exercises to help you lose weight. At the very least, make sure you're changing your walking/running pace.

Eating out at ethnic restaurants is particularly difficult when dieting, but there are always good options. Stay away from sauces that have loads of fat and sugar in them and focus on grilled meats, steamed or grilled veggies, and soups that do not use cream as their base.
