Lol, life imprisonment is extreme. I strongly believe that, once he is out, he would have learnt his lessons which will include:
1. Drinking in moderation (or staying off acohol entirely)
2. Learning how to forget some things especially women matter (since there is many women out there who he could have approached for friendship or relationship)
3. Staying away from bad influencing friends (There is no harm in his ship sailing alone so far that, he reaches his destination safely, that is graduation and getting good job than trying to sail with a friend in same ship which will end up capsizing due to different direction of ship destination).

3. Was to travel out (emigrate to Canada) with his family the next day
