On may 11, 2021 the governor of Edo state , gov. Godwin obaseki signed into law, a bill that empowers him, as the visitor to Ambrose Alli University (AAU), the powers to intervene in any crisis witnessed in the University.

After signing this law, he went further to appoint an acting vice Chancellor for the university.
However, this law in my own opinion is against the rule governing Nigeria universities which grant universities autonomy.
Autonomy is a key factor in the educational Field which help to maintain the integrity of the academic profession.
Therefore by signing such bill into law, it means the governor now has unlimited power in every decision making in the school, which includes, employment, promotion, appointments etc.
Going By this law, even the governor will determine who become class reps and SUG presidents.
ASUU must reject this!
Government cannot be trusted, they can't keep their promises. Have they been able upgrade common primary schools to standard?
By this law, we will always wake up in the morning to hear that an HOD, or Dean of faculty has been sacked directly from government house while the school will become polarised by politics instead of merit.
ASUU must rise to the occasion, A stich in time saves nine.
