This seems to be a low cost solution to drainage mess.

Australia has already started to use a network of drainage with nets so that plastics and other pollutants do not reach rivers or sea. ✅ Seems like a simple low cost solution ... why isn’t the whole world doing it?

The government would put out an inflated contract. Company would supply substandard material.
Photo Op, then we'll hear of how the nets are tearing or being stolen here on nairaland.

GOOD.
But if you fix that in Nigeria, those who fixed it or the scavengers we have patrolling the streets will cut everything and resell dem scrabs.

Many derive JOY in destroying things in Naija.
Until we start hanging such people, that country will never witness any tangible growth under civilian leadership.

No CIVILIAN LEADERSHIP in Nigeria can ever be matched to the worst MILITARY LEADERSHIP.
During the Military Era, Corruption was centralized but in this Civilian Era, you have an overwhelmingly metastatic corruption.

The reason is that they do not care about the environment, hence they treat their best gift from their maker with contempt, and murder environmental activists.

They keep hoping they'll make heaven, but heaven wouldn't admit them with this attitude.

Ask yourself how are my activities negatively affecting the environment?

Before projects are carried out an EIA (environmental impact assessment) is carried out, measures are taken to limit to the nearest minimum the negative impact on the environment.

But 4 naija EIA na easy means of cashout for government money.
