But isn't that kind of how we, as humans, perceive our kind of love? We place more value/worth on those we love than on those we don't.

One might even argue that it is for this very reason that many find it hard to love the way Jesus Christ calls on us to since His method instead demands that we assign equal worth/value on our neighbors as we do self, and an even greater value on those we perceive as enemies.
When it comes to our love for God, we are ofcourse called to surrender all control over to Him.
