What is righteousness?
The word righteousness means to be just or without blame.
Righteousness can be interpreted in two ways
1.Righteousness before man,
2.Righteousness before God.

The righteousness before man is to be just and blameless before man, meaning it is a righteousness that is based on human judgment.

The righteousness before God means a man to be blameless and just according to God's standards, God is a holy God hence one can be righteous before humans but an abomination before God.


There are two ways to be righteous before God.
1 The righteousness through works or the righteousness of the law.

2.The righteousness through faith


The righteousness of the law comes when one keeps the whole law of God without breaking any one at all, the law of God encompasses what we do, how we do things, purpose and intent, thoughts. One must be blameless in all, for example not only should you not steal but also you must not steal and your actions, inactions, words, disposition, and generally your whole life should not promote, condoles or reward stealing, not only that you must not lust over or desire what is not your own,
To be righteous one must be blameless in all things and in every way, and this must be consistently and without break.

Practically the only way to be righteous before God's law is that, right from one's birth till death one must be completely blameless without any error or fault.
Many people who think they keep the law do not keep it, they only do some and live some, some want to keep half of the law or atleast the ones they are attracted to or suit them and neglect the rest claiming grace.

It is not like that, if you are under the law you are mandated to keep the whole law without breaking anyone if you do break the law all your previous law keeping becomes zero. Ezekiel 18.

Trying to keep the law in sincerity or honesty in keeping the law will not make one a righteous person, it is only when one has meant the demand of the law that one can be declared righteous.

Historically there is only one person who has being declared righteous by the law and the prophets and that is Jesus christ

Jesus was born without sin
Jesus knew no sin
He never committed any sin
So from the day Jesus was born till the day he died he never committed any sin, he was perfect and blameless.

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.


Adam was created without sin but he commited sin hence he failed

The rest of humanity were born in sin and also committed sin.

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

So humans are sinners both in their inherent nature and experiencially. Because of this, the law that was suppose to justify them now condemns all For the law only justifies the righteous not the lawbreakers.


Hence, it is practically impossible to be righteous by means of the law.
But all hope is not lost,


2[b]God introduced the righteousness by faith[/b]
This righteousness is gotten when one accepts God's promises or gift.

Just after Adam and eve were driven out from the garden due to man's failure God made a promise that the seed of the woman will bruise the head of the serpent and God also demonstrate is providence by making a garment (which prophetically represented God's gift of righteousness to human race), God demonstrated his Goodness that righteousness which can never be gotten by humans effort but would be given freely to them by God in the future.
Hence, anybody who trust in God concerning this promise and revelation were recorded as righteous , actually the before Christ the saints were called toheirs of righteousness, meaning they were to inherit God's futuristic righteousness. That was how the old testament saints became righteous.
Job didnt fully understand God's way, he didnt fully understand the righteousness of faith hence he was lectured that at the end of the book of job he learnt that he his works were inferior to God, he repented and was restored

All the prophet and the law itself is really about the righteousness that is to come, the book of Daniel prophesied about a an everlasting righteousness to come

The new testament is about the fulfillment of God's promise, this promise was fulfilled through Jesus, who is the seed, before Jesus could establish this everlasting righteousness he had to first end the law by fulfilling it, Jesus himself became the escape route from the condemnation of the law.
Jesus established a new covenant that is based on faith in him and an accompanying love.

The only way to be a righteous person is by faith in Jesus, this faith means to believe in the person of Jesus Christ as the son of God, the messiah or christ anointed by God to bring redemption to mankind, and to accept his work on our behalf i.e his sacrifice on the cross and also his promise of everlasting life.

Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This is the righteousness by faith just like that.
When you believe this way you will recieve the gift of righteousness, this gift is given to you irrespective of your pass deeds or misdeeds.

Furthermore, wow it just get better, you immediately become regenerated spiritually, meaning that your spiritual nature changes to conform with that of God , meaning you become born again, all your sins are forgiven, you become a child of God.
This changes happen because the holy spirit takes residence in you, this is the spirit of Christ, sin is no longer in charge now but God himself

What of baptism?

Note baptism, is a testimony of your new transformation, through baptism you testifying that you have recieved a new life

If someone bought you a Lamborghini, which is a very powerful car of course you would be told how powerful the car is but you will not experience its power until you begin to drive it.
Now, after believing in Christ yet you would not be able to fully experience this new life you have being given until you begin to walk in it.

Paul urge the belivers to walk in the spirit in other to experience the power of it.

Well to walk in this new life require more knowledge , just as to ride a Lamborghini requires you to read the manual.

First of All our manual is the bible, but again we need an instructor, The holy spirit is our instructor but however the holy spirit has chosen certain christian to be a shepherd, teacher to lead and teach us, so that we might grow and be strong in Christ, those are the pastors, you can be a pastor but you must be qualified to be one and also empowered specially, but first you must be called. Also apart from being a pastor there are other ministries and callings that are available but you must be equipped with a special anointing of the holy spirit to do them.

There are alot of things in christianity that would get expose to you as you grow.

Why should I be righteous?

Only the righteous people will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Matthew 25:46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Many people do not care to be truly righteous
But Jesuus said those who seek to be truly righteous would be satisfied.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

This gospel is meant to quench the hunger and thirst of those who truly need God's righteousness.

Father in heaven I thank you for sending Jesus to die for me, believe on the Lord Jesus, I accept him as my saviour and I believe he died for my sin and he rose again for my justification thank you for your gift.
