officers and three civilians have been killed in two separate attempted robbery attacks on two banks in Ikire/Apomu areas in Osun state on Wednesday, June 2 at about 6.10pm.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, said the armed robbers numbering about Thirty-five(35) came in about Five(5) Vehicles, first attacked the Ikire Divisional Police HQ and the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) pinned down at Ikoyi-Osun with several explosive devices and several gun, firing in a bid to subdue the capacity of the Police while attempting to rob the banks.

''On sighting the overwhelming Policemen Comprising prompt response Response Unit (PRU), CP's Surveillance team, IRT Operatives, STS, 39 PMF, JTF, along with the local Security outfits, who swiftly engaged them in a fierce gun duel, the robbers began to flee.

While escaping, they shot sporadically, and regrettably three (3) Civilians were shot namely; Toheeb Oyebola, Temilorun Adebiyi and one other, (whose identity is not yet known), all male.

They did not succeed robbing any of the Banks.''

She gave the names of the police officers killed during the attack as ASP Osho Oluranti, Inspector Lekan Olalere, Two (2) Special Constabularies; namely Oladeni Olalekan, and Oyedeji Muyideen.

The police spokesperson added that the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital morgue, Apomu while efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Yet my people won't wake up and see we would soon become like them!

The police is lying again, how can the NPF face 35 armed robbers with five cars, the same NPF we know ?

Sooner or later Nigeria situation will soon turn all of us to criminal.

This is so sad, I just feel pity for their family members especially the ones of the policemen because those in charge of their benefits will try to divert it or slam their wives before it is approved despite them sacrificing their lives for a country and institution that doesn't care about them, RIP to all of them
