Osinbajo Expresses Worry Over Youth Unemployment by TheRareGem1(f): 10:14am On Jun 04, 2021
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed worry over the growing level of unemployment relating to fresh graduates in the country.

Osinbajo stated that the government was concerned and would ensure that the challenge was tackled.

He said, “Unemployment is a great problem, especially youth unemployment. Two million young people come to the job market every year.

“We absolutely must create good paying jobs, and create opportunities for these young people. This is a task complicated by numerous employability issues including a mismatch and job losses as a result of digitalisation.”

The Vice-President, who spoke on Wednesday during a virtual meeting organised by Federal Government and United Nations Development Programme, added that no fewer than 20,000 graduates would be employed under the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows programme.

He said the programme, which is targeted at graduates, would create internship opportunities and empower Nigerian youths with skills and capacity.

“The programme is for those, who have recently concluded the youth service. These are fully paid intensive training that will last 12 months,” Osinbajo added.

The Jubilee Fellowship Programme is targeted at fresh graduates who have just finished their NYSC, to make them employable by providing them with experience through a year internship with monthly pay, these beneficiaries maybe retain by the end of the programme by their place of intern.

The public, private sector, UN and EU are participate of this scheme, as such, they will be the ones training these youths meaning, they can also get retain at international level.

Two million people are pumped into the labour market yearly while a selected group of individuals are looting billions yearly.
What stops these greedy men from investing heavily with the looted funds? What stops them from solving a part of the unemployment problem by setting up industries?

Buhari and Osinbajo are just deceiving themselves. Instead of tackling unstable electricity to boost productivity and reduce unemployment, they would rather borrow money to fix railways. Why are we deceiving ourselves saying that the ease of doing business indices are increasing when we have unstable electricity?

How can critical markets and companies in Nigeria (especially Lagos) generate their own power? You go to Agbara, multinational companies run their power plants. Of course, they have to factor that in their cost of production before fixing their prices. You go to Computer Village (a major ICT market in West Africa), everyone has a generator.

Telcos spend half their revenue on powering their base stations. Do we need to tell these guys that many barbing salons are closing shops because they cannot afford to run on generator week in, week out?

Government cannot give everyone jobs; it's not possible. Government has to create an enabling environment. In a country where resources are scarce, the government must learn how to prioritize. Nigeria can live without railways for now. However, no country can survive in the face of unstable electricity.

Why can't this government unbundle the power sector and remove it from the exclusive list? Get state to generate, transit and distribute electricity in their state. Every state or region will use resources at its disposal to generate power. Why is this such a big deal? The national grid NONSENSE may be working in the United States and elsewhere in the world, but it doesn't work in Nigeria. How come nobody is worried that we cannot go beyond 5KMW 60 years after independence? undecided

What type of misleading headline is this? they already known most Nigerians will not read the content.

NJFP is for graduates who have just finished their service, to make them employable; government, local and international patterns like EU and Un will enroll them for a year training in the aim of making them have the relevant experience and get job, some might even be retained. This is a good initiative.

It is a scheme by UN and EU unless you want them to take it to another country? This is their initiative not the Niegrian government.
