Tourists and adventurers where information and cultural transmitters in the pre Internet days. They form the global network of informants.

And Africas lack of passionate and visionary adventurers contributed immensely to its lack of globalised awareness for a long time.

But with the advent of the world wide web access to informations to and about the remotest part of the world became fast, easy, cheap and non dynamic.

With this, Africans that were otherwise ignorant of the rest of the world in a globalised sense, were suddenly flooded with informations and news about almost anything and everything and in an overwhelming speed.

This created two problems for Africa, the first being intellectual liability (most information were being absorbed in a randomise disjointed manner creating worthless knowledge)

The second being cheap, easy, interesting and protective platform in which social gossip could trive especially worthless gossips, a field Africans would get back-back medal in.

With no fear of being branded, I would say if Africans, especially the young minds could limit their use of social media to more important reasons, perhaps we would have less reason to complain about unemployment and underdevelopment, cause our brain would be more focused hence prolly more productive.
