No Amount Of Security Meeting Can Bring Peace Unless...... by chrisxxx(m): 11:52am On Jun 08, 2021
No amount of security meeting can bring peace unless those who chair it come with a clean mind. If you come with a pre-determined mindset as it is presently it will like how others have been, end up in futility.
The present challenge in Nigeria has been foreseen a long time ago in our geography and agricultural classes.
We were given lectures on desertification, causes and control. So many of us had our A's in these two subjects but didnt take it serious because we thought it would never affect us. Today one of the causes of desertification-which is overgrazing has happened in the north. The herders for reason of desertification are pulling away from the north to the south. The south unfortunately does not have the landmass of the north and has a different orientation and culture from the north. Cows roaming the street in the south is an aberration. In the north this is normal.
There is cultural and religious clash. Those who rear cattle believe the land belongs to God(Allah) and hence is a free gift of nature which anyone may have access to including the herders and farmers. To them the land belongs to everyone and is privately owned by no one.
Interestingly this is not the case in the south. Every land is owned by either an individual, government reserved, or communally owned.
Access to lands is restricted to trespassers. Land owners frowned at would-be trespassers. The writers of the 1999 constitution did not help matter when they declared freedom of movement for all citizens as herders interpret this to mean freedom of movement to even anyone's bedroom with their cows.
The earlier we understand our differences and challenges the better for us. The south wants only cows ready for the beef market in their domain and not rearing. The meaning of this is that cow should only be found in the abattoir.
With the present challenge everyone including those down south want the FG to establish even from government purse ranches in states where herders are indigenous to. There is large expanse of land particularly in the north. This can be done over there. One can also give this government some credits for the rail systems presently being constructed which will enable easier transportation of products to any part of the country the market is.
This is the only way to make peace.
The cost of two torcano fighter can foot this bill to make peace. You cant buy peace with warplane.
