I combine my POS business with phone repair which includes downloading of music and movies in my area. Boom my landlord at home called me that he is coming to withdraw 10k, I said okay. So this man came to my shop and I was not around so he called me to instruct my wife to give him 10k say later him go send give me, I said no and immediately called my wife not to give any money. He left angliey. Wetin concern me. That same day a friend called to borrow to 10k to pay later, I no gree. That one over. After 3 days during the sala break my landlady at the shop, she sell bear and pepper soup close to my shop. This woman begged me to borrow 10k that she don't know that banks will not open bla bla bla and I told her NO. Simple. She was more than shocked. But my woman have mistakenly founded someone's bet9ja account with 25000 instead of 2500, but To GOD be the glory that the customer later returned the balance after two days of fasting. Although I know the wife's shop. Some customer's will come and transfer 1000 instead of 10000, and say na mistake. I use union bank so I Verify any transfer on my App the. Use the money to fund my wallet immediately before payment. No Confirmation no payment for those doing Transfer. But Here in awka Zenith Bank has been my Headache I have to return their POS. All the failed transaction that was debited all were Zenith Bank Customer's especially every month end. Even on Sunday a customer friend called to borrow 20k and I quietly told him no. Stating that I don't enough capital for my POS business so any money I removed there will affect the business. This Excuse have saved me four times. Please ignore the cut and join English

Hmmm! This is so sad as you got to learn the hard way. Some customers know how to operate this POS Machines better than the POS Merchant him/herself, reason one need to be very careful and be a step ahead. Thou, one can't be conscious, only God can protect us from the hand of these fraudsters. Someone narrated his experience up there as one of his customer on given the POS Machine to supply her pin, hide under the pretence of not seeing it clearly and go under a shade, then erase a zero, changing 80k to 8k with him (POS Merchant) not noticing until she left. We should just learn to always make sure the Machine doesn't hangon beyond normal when we give them (customers) to enter their PIN and also endeavour to check printout before issuing money out.

As per getting to track or see the fraudster again, it will take luck, just count your loss and learn from your mistake. The ATM Card he dropped/forgot is obviously not his, probably stolen, so it's dangerous having such at your disposal, who knows the real owners might be hunting for it too, and should you decide to trace it to the Bank it belong to, you might be accosted as the offender should it has been reported to the Bank.

For him to know the pin it might be that him and the person that owns it know about it, because he did the first one of 60k and put the pin and it wrote insufficient fund, and I am now like suspecting that guy I know that he called to ask question maybe it's him that gave him information about me, because we were somehow close and I later distant myself from him when he talked ill of me in front of others, even when he were close he once ask me to send him one code facebook sent to my number, and with trust I sent it to him, someone is telling me he want to use it to hack my account,I want to be sure if it's true, because nothing like hacking trait I have notice in my Facebook since then

Sorry for your loss, next time make sure you re-check everything before you hand over money, and don't let a customer put unnecessary pressure on you

He showed me a fake debit alert of the exact amount to my name. And believing it was the usual network issues, I counted the money and gave him after he had patiently waiting for over 30minutes.

I strongly bliv u've learnt ur lesson. On no account shud u giv Customer cash over transfer just cos dey showed u dia debit alert. Me do tell dem, dia alert is not as important as mine cos I was d one goin 2 pay dem, not d oda way round. Shud d delay is getin long dat I didn't receive alert Nd dey can no longer wait, I do exchange number wif dem wif d promise 2 get in touch weneva I received d alert while askin dem 2 send dia Account detail which I do forward d amount back 2 dem, I don't mind bearin d bank charges at my end, it's just my way of appeasin dia inconvenience. Sm Banks, especially GTBank which I've had experience wif on more dan one occasion, do reverse sender's money wen dia is network issue at times, so givin such Customer cash wif hope of alert is a lose already.

As the owner, sales rep or just helping out.
Share the good, the bad, ugly side of working as a pos agent.

The good
Making great friends and acquaintances. connecting to a greater scale if you know your onions.

I've heard of people who met their partners while working as a pos agent.

the bad
Debts and more debt
You'll see one old man/woman even young peeps will just come and be doing oju anu to please borrow them the smallest amount that they'll pay back, after giving them, they'll stop patronising you and will even stop passing the route of your shop lol grin

the ugly
This one happened to me recently but I serve a living God.
The man came with a jeep highly dressed with an expensive bling, he said he wanted 50k I charged him 1k he said no prob but he's doing transfer.

Inside me I was happy cos that means more commission, oga finished doing the transfer said I should check. While he wait inside his ac motor cos that day was hot af, after 5min he came and asked if I had seen the money I said no, he said maybe its network that he'll wait.

Another 10mins money never drop my scam rader began blinking po po po po.
Oga said I should give him 20k to settle someone while he wait till the money drops, I said mba.

When he saw that I wasn't fazed neither was I moved with his appearance, he suggested to send the money again but if the first 50k entered I should send it back to him and I should manage 5k for being an omo daada, oga did the second transfer showed me his bank app, our company's name and truly it showed successful even the first transfer details that they've not refunded him, I even saw his account balance wey be like recharge card pin grin sibe sibe this madam wasn't fazed.

Oga came back asked me how far, I said none of the two transfer dropped that means no money, he just hissed and drove off. till now I no see any 50k.

Pos work no easy honestly, the bad outweigh the good it's just God that's protecting most of us.

Please share your experience let's learn from each other.

Good day. I'm just putting things together to start one. Currently budgeting 150k- 170k to start (hope that's enough?). Please i will need your guidance on many things like,
1. How to start and POS to purchase, where to purchase and so all.
2. There are already few couple of POS on my street. How do break even and amass market share?
3. Is POS merge to an account or it's just meant for withdrawal, deposit.?

Thanks.
Await your candid reply.

My own go long small..
THE GOOD..
When I combine what I make from my three joint venture, I smile every weekend when am balancing my account..
*I became the most popular in my area.. I no wan too loud my location so those big boys/ biggest boys in my area no go Sabi say I dey nairaland.. (are you Dia? You gettti the point now!!

THE BAD
have been attacked 3 times, twice, it was a fake transfer of 50k.. It brought out my name and my full info, and they seem in a hurry. Well, I no shake. Kept my cool, asked for their address and phone number and promised to bring the money to them once it drop, I will bring it without charging kobo.
When they started making funny moves like flashing me weapon, I moved closer to my 50k gas cylinder and held the nossle.. Shebi na craze dem wan see, held the nozzle in my right hand and matches on the other hand, my matches is always handy since I already know sooner or later, I might be attacked.
When they too sensed trouble, they left...

2nd encounter, they were 3,one of them in a military uniform and the other two in mufti, they came with bike..
Immediately they said transfer of 50k and didn't argue about charges, I sensed fraud..
So I used my tactics again, gas nossle in one hand, matches on the other hand but these ones wanted to form stubborn.. I simply made a phone call and shouted, dem Don come back again o.. Dem no even wait to see the outcome...

Avoid giving your sales rep bulky money like 500 naira notes, they tend to make mistakes while counting..
I Don over chop gbese.
Almost all civil servants in my area turned me into a loan merchant.. I later get sense when gbese wan finish me.
It even got to a time, I have to go very early to their house around 5am and shout, they feel embarrassed but I get paid..
To do pos business, you have to be very sensitive and sensible hence, you close shop as soon as you open it..
I dey enjoy free things and free flexing cos na gboys full my area..
You will make friends, you will make enemies, you get free pass from ladies wey believe say you be dangote..
All in all, it is a bitter sweet experience..
Please, is it a profitable business?
