Lagos Mention In Buhari's Interview Not Reference To Tinubu, Says Presidency by abc115: 6:54am On Jun 11
President Muhammadu Buhari’s reference to Lagos while speaking on the future of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to do with party stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Presidency said last night.

During his interview with Arise TV, when the President was asked on his desire for the APC after his tenure, he said: “The hope of this administration is to see APC last beyond it. Therefore, we should allow the party to decide. You cannot sit there in Lagos, for instance, and decide on the fate of APC on zoning. The restructuring of the party has begun from the bottom to the top with the membership card registration. Every member of the party must be involved.

“We will soon conduct our convention. No single member of the party will be allowed to go against the wish of the party. We should allow the party to decide.”

Clarifying the comment last night in a statement, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garaba Shehu, said: “The Presidency wishes to distance President Buhari from a malicious campaign aiming to drive a wedge between him and a staunch ally, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This is nothing short of a mischievous attempt to drag the President into controversies. Our citizens and especially the members of the APC should not fall for this.

“The ruling party, the APC, unlike others before it is a popular political party owned by its entire membership, hence Mr. President was making the point during the 45-minutes interview that neither he nor anyone in the leadership could impose their wishes on the party.

“This is a basic consensus that binds the entire party leadership. The party leaders remain firmly committed to the principles that succession must be through the democratic norms and processes.

“The mention he made of Lagos was not a reference to the respected party leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, as the opposition party’s predatory designs would put it in order to damage the excellent relationship between the two of them.

“The President, the Asiwaju and the rapidly growing members of the party, want a dynastic succession of elected leaders.

“The APC should not be distracted from its progress as a democratic party.”

When we start to understand what politics mean then we would start hating on unnecessary media news and not hate on those in politics.

Meanwhile, for those clamoring for war, let's think about our loved ones. There are better ways we can make our voices heard, we can't fight the government, it will only bring only bloodsheds and tears.

Just let's look at it like this, after the first Civil War in Nigeria, what was achieved? Nothing, only deaths of some thousands of families.

I have passed my message.

Peace

When you always have the need to explain the President's statement that was rendered in English, then it is an indication of a leader that is incapable of effective communication. It just shows that Buhari is not so mentally coordinated when his aides always have to interprete his statements.

Meanwhile, who else has noticed how Nairaland threads have recently been getting longer due to higher number of comments, I attribute that to the Buhari effect that redistributed several twitter fans back to base grin grin. As everybody dey complain complain, yet some other people like Seun will be licking their lips in delight.

Nation Newspaper really cried through out the night

The fact that Buhari knew this would generate reaction and didn't bridle his mouth gives the Nation Newspaper more food for thought

If you look at that statement plainly sef

There is only one man sitting in Lagos and determing what happens in apc

He can choose to say you can't be in Lagos (example of himself) and determine zoning in apc but he didn't

He said you can't sit which talks of a godfather giving orders like monarch

What will they say before angry

Even a child knows it's tinubu Buhari was referring to. When speaking about Kano why he didn't say you can't sit in oinisha and determine what happens in Nigeria , when speaking about bokoharam he didn't say you can't sit in Kano and determine security

But when speaking about the party zoning he specifically mentioned sitting in Lagos .

Lol.
The Nation, Tinubu's newspaper.

I don't know what they expect Garba to say, maybe they expected him to say Buhari was referring to Tinubu.

Even Tinubu himself already got the message forget all these face saving cover up. By next year or towards the end of this year y'all will see how they will state it in clear terms that Tinubu should forget his Presidential ambition.
