On the twenty-ninth day
Of the fifth moon,
Day demi-gods drink
And dance with derangement,
Palm fronds decorate roads,
The populace in search of succour
Prostrate
And hail,
“Hosanna in the highest!”
Their threadbare clothes spread
For hosanna’s horses to tread on.
From a high horse,
Hosanna,
Unlike hosanna of yore
Pronounce more promises
To wave wand of magic
And worries will wane,
Elation erupt.
Drumbeats
And dances
Of dancers possessed,
Praises of parrots
And chants of caged clergies
Herald another grope
In the unlit alley.
