There is a dire need to make our phone battery last longer despite the bulk of work it does. Complex activities running on today's smartphones are what is fast draining the battery while its capacity has increased over the years.  In light of this, these tips will make your battery last longer both in the short and long run.

1. Use battery saver

One of the quickest ways to extend the hours of phone's usage is to switch on the battery saver. Every smartphone has this feature.

However, before you on it, you need to know what it does. The battery saver extends your battery power by killing the background process of most apps and reducing the screen brightness on your phone among others. As a result, most apps will hibernate unless you open them. For instance, you won't receive push emails unless you open the Gmail app.

Some phones even offer ultra power saver which only allows you to make calls, message and other basic function while it shut down all other phone apps.

2. Adjust Screen Brightness

Another useful tip is to reduce the screen brightness of your phone. This automatically increases your battery longevity. Apart from this benefit, constant exposure to full-screen brightness is harmful to your eyes.

3. Close apps not in use

Have you enabled battery saver? you can still close some stubborn apps still running in the background. On an Android phone, simply tap the phone menu to close all apps.

But, if you don't want to enable this mode, this is another option to extend your battery power.

4. Switch to better Apps

Some apps consume so much power on your phone when in use. Such apps, if there's an alternative, should be deleted and install less power-consuming apps. Apps like PDF readers and video players fall in this category. For example, Vlc player consume less power than other video player app.

Therefore, consider installing related apps that are light and consume less power in order to keep your phone battery healthy

5. Delete unnecessary Apps

Delete apps you don't use. To start with, look through your app list and delete the ones you don't need. Although some pre-installed apps can't be deleted, you can disable them in the app management.

6. Use Wifi if possible

Always choose Wifi whenever there's an option to choose between a wifi Internet and carrier data. One obvious advantage is to preserve your battery lifespan before recharging it.

7. Off data when necessary

Another tip to maintain your battery is to off the phone data connection when not in use. This is because internet data consume a lot of power whether in use or not. But when it is off, you extend at least 25% power of your smartphone.

8. Turn off your Phone GPS

Turning on of phone GPS is useful such as easy tracking of lost phone or map reading. However, it comes with a cost as it drains your battery. Hence, turn it off if you don't see the need.

Does this method sound extreme to you? then choose when to on/off it during the day to keep your phone's battery from draining so fast.

9. Avoid overcharging

There's no point insisting on charging till 100% before you unplug your phone. Rather, cultivate the habit of being satisfied at around 90%. if not, you will tend to overcharge which can cause battery damage or degradation.

In relation to this, avoid overnight charging to prevent your overcharging before you wake up. This helps to maintain your phone battery in the long run
