This date “June 12” stands as a very significant date in the Nigerian history annually. A couple of events seems to crowd around the date.
Most of which though historical may not be so palatable in the ears of Nigerians. As this date seems to bring different ideas to the Nigerian citizens. Some tend to be scared and locked up indoors through our the day for fear of the unknown.
To begin with, it is wise to highlight some of these significant recap of events that go way back to this significant day on Nigeria’s history book of record.

Nigeria has enjoyed uninterrupted democracy since 1999. General Abdusalam Abubakar was the last military head of state who had just been succeeded in office by President Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 1999, which happened to be the same date formally used to mark democracy in the country.

Nigeria had made history on Tuesday June 12, 2018 when the country’s government had picked the date as its new Democracy Day.To replace the May 29 date formally used by the use military to mark change of power to the democratic age, and civilians in 1999.
After about 25 years had gone by since the military government had cancel June 12, 1993 election results, Nigeria’s Presido Muhammadu Buhari declared the same date as the main Democracy Day of Nigeria.

On the day, an estimated 14 million Nigerians – irrespective of ethnic, religious, class, and regional affiliations, (in a period when religious acrimony and tension had reached its zenith) – defied bad weather to elect their president with the hope of ending eight years of military dictatorships.

The euphoria was short-lived. The results of the election were never released. But unofficial results gathered through the various polling stations by civil society groups across the country indicated broad national support for the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

What happens on June 12, this year?

Stories on media platforms has it that, Nigerians intend to exercise their franchise for a better government having being failed by the present.
The theme of the protest is tagged #RevolutionNow, this movement seems to be the most important thing on the minds of Nigerians who seek a better system which truly cares about their existence, security and welfare.

Having been sabotaged and unheeded by the present administration over the last concluded #EndSars protest which had hit the airwaves and all social media platforms ran in the country.

This movement fostered by the Nigerian youths will be peaceful and kicks off in several cities of the country inspite the ban of one Nigerians most popularly used social platforms(Twitter), right after the declare on ban on crypto trading.

The Nigerian youths are hopeful that this date and the protest birth the desired effect on the government so as to create the new Nigeria, they desire.
