My dad have been sick for sometime now.
He has been in and out of hospital. A consultant neurologist recommend these tests and from our Doctors explaination of the result they think he might have prostate cancer but they didn't sound 100% sure.
Our family doctor is against surgery...he argues that the cancer will spread with surgery.
I will really appreciate inputs on this.
Is there a cure? Can surgery correct or aggravate his condition?

It is only the specialist Doctor in that field, who can tell you the chances of 100% cure or not....
Not this your family doctor who may be a general Doctor.
Take him there and let him be cure instead of leaving him in pain

You mean the neurologist or another specialist?
I don't think the neurologist can be of help cos he was brought in to treat amnesia it was during diagnosis that he recommended these tests.

Unless you are referring to another result you didn't post here but this result you posted has nothing to do with prostate cancer.
It shows how well the kidney is functioning and aside from the slightly low K+,the kidneys are doing fine.
Which test was conducted to arrive at a prostate Cancer?

We're expecting to see a PSA result and/or Prostate biopsy report, if you're really talking about prostate cancer.
So, where are they?

anyone?
Re: Help With This Test Result(pictures) by SendoSendal: 3:31am On Jun 14, 2021
The PSA result is quite high. I think you should see a consultant urologist for proper diagnosis. At times, chronic BPH can also cause a huge spike in PSA. At the same time, it can be caused by prostrate cancer. The gold standard in determining this is to have an MRI guided biopsy. The samples of the prostrate picked during the biopsy would be analysed to see if cancer growths are present. You need to move fast. If it's prostrate cancer, picking it early will have a better prognosis. It's much better when it is discovered early before it spreads outside the prostrate to other organs. There are treatment plans such as proton therapy and others that have an improved chances of attaining total cure if picked early. Don't delay. Get your dad prompt specialist care. Best of luck

Thank you so much for your response.
Will it be better to get the specialist urologist for diagnosis or take him straight for the MRI scan?

No, get a urologist!! Considering the PSA level, a biopsy needs to be done, they can also do the biopsy blindly in some centres. I'd advice you go to a teaching hospital or a known urologist in the city you stay. Early diagnosis is important for better prognosis. It's likely your dad is having issues with urinating along side other symptoms

If u e recommended the test , have you take the result to him and ask what next?

Thanks once again, I will go with your advice.
I think I will talk with the Doctors caring for him to make arrangements for him to see the urologist. He's having issues with controlling urine as you rightly stated.
Thanks.

It was a neurologist that recommended these tests. When the test results came the Doctors suggested that he might have prostate cancer but they are not sure...this is why am seeking for other opinions.

My Dad have seen the urologist and he recommended a biopsy.....Bill is 200K.
problem now is the biopsy is not a cure. He explained that the biopsy which is a form of surgery when concluded will determine if he has cancer or not. He also talked about castration as an option if it turns out to be prostrate cancer after the biopsy.

Yes biopsy is not a cure. It's a diagnostic procedure to know whether cancer is in the prostrate or not. If there is, he will discuss treatment options with you one of which is radical prostatectomy (castration as you said). Try and do the biopsy first and take it one day at a time..All will be well

Castration = Bilateral total/simple Orchiectomy(not radical Prostatectomy)

Radical Prostatectomy is reserved mainly for the early stages of prostate CA, which are rarely seen in Nigeria due to late presentation.

According to you, he has already seen a Urologist, and biopsy has been advised.

That's the standard way to go. Other things will come thereafter.
Go source for money, bros, or check other Urologists/teaching hospitals to see if you can get lower fees.

Thank you.
I would've have booked him for the process if not for other family members who thinks that he's too weak for the "surgery"
Am still trying to convince them that it's a procedure for a test.
Funding is not a problem.
