Members of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) thronged the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta in large numbers to felicitate with the Ogun State government in commemoration of the famous JUNE 12 celebration.

The union, led by its Chairman, Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle, joined other transport unions, civil societies and groups to pay due respect to Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

'June 12', a tradition that has been held annually since year 2000 was formerly known as Abiola Day and celebrated in some South Western States of Nigeria until 2018 when the President Buhari-led government declared June 12 as the new Democracy day to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993 which was adjudged to be Nigeria's freest and fairest elections but was wrongly cancelled.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun (MFR) alongside his deputy, Engr Noimot Salako and other notable members of the Ogun State government cabinet were also on ground to give a befitting honour to the late Aare Onakakanfo XIV of Yorubaland.

The Governor in his address, reiterated his irrevocable commitment to the ethics of democracy, a system he described as 'a perfect one' for Nigeria. He equally implored those calling for the disintegration of Nigeria to shelve the idea and embrace total unity.

He maintained that the late MKO Abiola and his mandate should serve as a reminder to everyone that "we are stronger together as a Nation". The Governor said further that, "Chief MKO Abiola broke all barriers; religion and ethnicity that are being used in Nigeria to divide the people. He won across the length and breadth of the country, even at the backyard of his main opponents". Prince Dapo Abiodun described the phenomenon as one that should remind Nigerians that "we are greater than our challenges".

While addressing newsmen at the event, the State Chairman of AMORAN in Ogun State, Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle commended the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for giving a deserved and befitting honour to Chief MKO Abiola. He also lauded the Governor for his giant strides in the State which has made the gateway State to flourish under his watch. Alowonle prayed that the Almighty Allah (SWT) will continue to guide the him to govern Ogun State to prosperity.
