GuyfawkesAB: Every region is unique. The places you have mentioned have railways, roads and lots of access that has impacted their economy. How do you expect the state to reduce unemployment, if it doesn't tackle ease of doing business such as inaccessible? 10 Likes |

pacespot: He should lunch his airline first and stop disturbing us with paper airline. I saw the route his airline want to fly, he's in for a good competition: Lagos, to Abuja to Owerri, PH and Eungu, that's where the traffic is, Dana, Airpeace, United Nigeria, Arik air etc are ready for him 2 Likes |

Oracleforce: They don't have the capacity to do that, Airpeace are also expecting almost 20 aircraft from Amber Brazil to add to what they already have, I think they have like 40+ Aircraft presently Ibom Air don't have up to 8 or 10 Aircraft, so how are they going to do that 4 Likes |

trulymatters: While I think he was a bit harsh, I believe he made valid points. Just how exactly will having more aircraft increase investment? I recall reading the interview with Onyema (airpeace) who gave insight about just how difficult the airline business is, and unfortunately most people don't know its not as lucrative as it seems. Were that the case, Bellview, Dankabo, Sosoliso, Okada, etc., will all be operation. Even Arik just barely made it out after they were almost submerged in debt. Just how many people will use flight to and from Uyo? Infact apart from Abuja-Lagos, I don't know of any other route whose traffic is lucrative enough to keep airlines afloat. My last flight from Lagos to Enugu, the plane Dana was just about 3/4 full. I truly hope these investment will not end up like the others. |

Increase in the investment for the State and the stakeholders. I can't wait for Ebonyi State to round off their own cargo airport soon. |

Goke7: You both have a point. A chicken an egg argument really. Do you service the rich first, who are then attracted to engage the 'poor' - the Dangote model of industrialisation. Or do you invest in the poor in the hope of growing naturally, from the roots to the top. The jury is out on that. They both have their pros and cons and do not always work well in every situation. This is where vision becomes important and this is where politics must take responsibility in carving out workable, consistent policies, programs and pursuits. This is apt because I consider vividly the experiences of her close cousin, Cross-River state where inconsistent vision is haunting development. Donald had a vision quite similar to Udom's presently and invested massively at the top with 'elitist' projects in the hope of attracting investment, the political backlash led the Imoke government to focus on more socially responsible outreaches primarily to the rural folk at the fringes of society. That backlash as well has led the present government to ride the middle ground seeking to industrialise the state, not with big, bold ventures but middle of the road cottage like industries. Result today. The State is in a state (no pun intended) of developmental confusion, huge resource wastage and a situation where practically nothing really works towards recognisable development as all efforts since 1999 appear to be working at Cross (again no pun intended) purposes. We should be careful here at siding or victimising one perspective or the other. What is really needed is consistency. And this is what i fear in Akwa Ibom like many other States of the Federation, staying a visionary course across governments, tenures, party balloons and political hot air. 2 Likes |
