Jimoh Olodan, a farmer kidnapped on Friday in Iyemero Ekiti, Ikole local government area of Ekiti State, has been released.

A search crew comprised of security services and local hunters was alleged to have discovered the farmer inside the forest at 5.30 a.m. on Monday.

Jimoh Olodan was kidnapped on Friday at Elegure farmstead in Iyemero, after a gang of 18 bandits descended on the community in pursuit of the wealthy farmer.

The bandits later called the family on Saturday and demanded N30 million in ransom.

On Monday, a source told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the farmer had been released as a result of joint efforts.

Local hunters, the Nigerian Vigilante Group, the Oodua Peoples Congress, and the Amotekun Corps were all involved.

He said that the N2 million was paid in installments and that the security forces were able to tighten the noose on the robbers by searching the vast woodland between the Ekiti-Kogi-Kwara borders.

“On Sunday, the family paid an amount of N2 million out of the ransom demanded with a purpose to continue with negotiation after first part payment.

“However, the search team in Iyemero Ekiti ventured deep into the forest and pursued them until the night time, scouring the entire forest to the borders of Ekiti with Kogi and Kwara States.

“They abandoned the man and fled when they saw the search party was closing in on them.

He remarked, “We thank God that the individual was released unharmed and in excellent and sound health.”

When called, ASP Sunday Abutu, the Ekiti Command Police Public Relations Officer, said the police led the search squad that retrieved the farmer from bandits.

“I think I told you on Saturday that the police immediately swung into action upon hearing that the farmer was kidnapped.

“So, we led the search team that chased the bandits into the forest to ensure that the victim was freed”.

The police, according to Abutu, were unaware of the N2 million provided by the family as an instalment payment to guarantee his release.
