For this episode, We will be looking through the topic, "WHY FARMING IS NOW A NECESSITY"

Let's get started.

The incessant rise in price of Agricultural commodities across the country calls for reasoning together. Hence, WHY FARMING IS NOW A NECESSITY"

Nigeria, an agrarian country with higher Youthful population has more than 80% of her farmers categorized as smallholder farmers (having less than 5 hectares of cultivated land individually) according to CGAP Survey -National Survey and Segmentation of Smallholder Households in Nigeria- 2017.

Though this Smallholder farmers with the use crude tools and stone aged method of farming supplies more than 80% of Agricultural produce which is yet to meet The NEEDS and satisfaction of over 200m Nigeria populace with yearly 2.6% growth rate. Population projected to be 263m by 2030 and 401m of people by 2050, this indeed calls for reasoning together.

According to Statista Survey 2019, only about 70% of Nigeria household farm and more than 87% of them are rural dwellers. Meaning, this is far lesser than average population of over 200m People we have in Nigeria since only 48.84% of Nigeria population as rural dwellers. (World Bank collection of Development Indicators, 2019)

However, This farmers' percentage is capable of feeding the Nation but no, not with the stone aged method adopted by majority of the farming populace and most importantly the Security challenge whose effects, rural farmers who are major suppliers of Agricultural produce suffers the more.

With this security challenges, certain percentage of them have deserted their farms, Coupled with the unfavourable weather condition (rain) higher percentage of farming populace who practices rain-fed farming suffers. These two challenges pose great threat on farm produce in the coming year as without soothsaying the price of Agricultural commodities will go higher than what we experience currently if these challenges persists.

This is to tell Government to intensify their efforts:

On security, as we have some security measures put in place by some States, Region and The Federal Government. Such includes Amotekun, Ebubeagu and other local security outfits, set up to check the problems of insecurity ranging from kidnapping, banditary and indiscriminate grazing of cultivated land by criminal herders' cattle etc that faces farmers

On subsidized and easily accessible high yield planting materials, farm machineries to aid mechanized farming, granting of loans to real farmers and the likes.

Doing these will boast the efficiency and morales of farmers, also entice others to venture into farming business.

This should be an eye opener for fellow citizens to take it as a challenge by venturing into full large scale or small scale farming business, where in turn profit is made and most importantly our dear Nation is saved of imminent hunger.
Farming made easy, Even It could be practice ANYWHERE in different ways Which includes having Garden, Sack or perforated bucket planting etcetera.

In conclusion, Government and individual should play their parts as defined. The issue of insecurity should be checked, granting loans to field farmers, embracing mechanized farming method.
Most importantly, let's do away with the mentality of seeing Farming as an occupation or passion for ONLY the illiterates, aged and The less prevelleged. We are encouraged to participate in Farming business directly or indirectly through investment as saving our dear country of an impending food scarcity and hunger is a NECESSITY FOR ALL AND SUNDRY.

Do not forget, farming is no more an option but a NECESSITY.

Thanks for your time

The main issue is that the effort of the government did not meet the target farmers
