Over here in the south eastern part of Nigeria I've noticed that the rainfall for the past couple of weeks is brutally black in color.

At initial stage I thought it was dirt from the zinc of the building but I've equally seen it elsewhere and even collected some samples outside not directly under roof and it was thickly black.

I'm pondering what can be the cause of black rain water these days...

Pls get a litmus paper and test for PH bro.

For clearer confirmation
You got to decant the water in order to separate both mixtures.
Run a separate litmus test on both the residue (decant) and supernatant.
This will tell if the mixture is acid (A) or base(B)
If A is confirmed, get a small glass cup and empty the residue on it.

Take about 10ml from it and add to separate tube then get a....



Pls I won't go further to avoid causing hazardous outcome.

Probably caused by some atmospheric dust or precipitation.... It could be a black rain though.... SouthEast is mostly industrial and lots of burning and fumes take place over there...so black rain is expected.

I can relate to that but it not actually a new thing or peculiar to east Nigeria alone as you claimed
I notice this when I was still in secondary school and living in the southern States.
I think it safe to say that such occurrence sometimes happen during early season rainfall rather than late season rainfall. I bet you won't notice it in September or thereabout.
These are just my observations.

Na something like this OP suppose carry go frontpage,maybe experts can say something about this. By the way,this is one of the many problems we have in Nigeria, citizens have to do everything themselves ,there should be a government agency already digging deep into what might have caused this and I don't think water analysis could be that difficult to do.

It's dirty zinc. Looks like charcoal particles.

People have been collecting rain water here in Lagos and it's pure like spring water. so.... check your environs very well for any spillage because the second pics looks like there's fuel in it.
