There is a chronic deficiency in leadership methods and ideas across all our state governments as demonstrated by this lagos gov. You draw out construction plans and laws that all should follow, issue it, and take your eyes off the activities of residents. Why? The residents activities should be monitored, week in week out so that illegal constructions are nipped in the bud. That will save the state and citizenry a lot of time and energy trying to bulldoze structures. And also defaulters should actually be fined. If there is a fine for them it will help in reducing the number of defaulters. |

Nonsense! Who is going to be cutting the grass? The house owners did that so that the area can be . more easily maintained. How does the pavement affect the canal or setback? Modified Maybe they can plant trees there. That should be better than grass. Grass is high maintenance. 1 Like |

Even if it is not blocking the flow,it is AGAINST THE MASTER PLAN but you like many other Nigerians feel you can do what you likeand still blame government for not making Nigeria look like UK |

bunto: Trees can be planted. The roots of trees helps hold the soil together, herbs and shrubs also reduces issues of water run off and traps soil borne in water from rain. This helps reduces soil erosion. This is why they're advocating for greens around or close to flood prone areas and also near water bodies. |

slivertongue: What they've done is not right! Stop condoning lawlessness. My dad when building his house put reasonable set back between the house and the road. On 2 occasions when the road was expanded or gutters reconstructed, they've had no need to demolish any part of our house. Many others were unfortunate. The setback exist for a reason. If the canal overflows for instance and people drown, the home owners have themselves to blame. 1 Like 1 Share |

If you go to ilaje in ebute meta or makoko you will be pissed......the question should be are they surppose to be there in the first place.......but when the governments start demolishing their properties, they will be shouting.......i want the government to do the necessary......and get rig of all illegal structures in lagos |

the deterrent to evil or wrong doings is in knowing that when you do the wrong things ,you will and cannot get away with it and that is what is missing , in Nigeria , people know that they can get away with anything and everything and that is why they keep doing the wrong things . until we have a system in place that people know that no matter how influential or highly placed you are , if you go against the law or rule and you are found out u will pay for it , until that system occur , ppl will still keep doing things the wrong way Sleekfingers: 1 Like |
