Mr Wahab charged Lagosians to respect the state drainage master plan to avoid property demolition.

The Lagos State commissioner for the environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a seven-day contravention notice to owners of buildings on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa all along the Ikota River.

This is contained in a statement obtained from the X handle of the director, public affairs, ministry of the environment and water resources, Kunle Adesina, on Monday in Lagos.

Mr Adesina said Mr Wahab made the declaration alongside the special adviser environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, after an extensive inspection tour of the Ikota River corridor.

He said the inspection tour was to ascertain the level of compliance by property owners whose buildings and fences fall within the approved seven-metre setback on both sides of the channel.

Mr Wahab charged Lagosians to respect the state drainage master plan to avoid property demolition.

He stressed that there was no going back on the decision of the state to enforce the law and reclaim drainage setbacks following the expiration of the notices issued.

The commissioner said the Nigerian Conservation Foundation had earlier written a petition complaining about several distortions, saying that there had been a lot of distortion on their roads.

He said the distortion affected the natural habitat of animals in the foundation as well as on Orchid Road where a lot of damage had been done to the drainage channel designed to take stormwater from the communities into the Lagoon.

He said Lagos State had been humane in its approach to reclaim the drainage right of way hence the review of the setback alignment from the original seven metres to six metres after a meeting with property owners to reduce the number of structures to be affected.

“We cannot keep lampooning government for flooding when developers, builders and residents are the main cause of flooding.

“We shall continue to enforce because that is why laws are made. Without law and order, there cannot be development, enough of this bad behaviour,” Mr Wahab said.

The commissioner and his team also visited Oral Estate II along system 156 Igbo Efon, where the primary channel was found to have been totally blocked by illegal structures without drainage approvals.

The commissioner also visited Agungi, Ajiran and Osapa where notices had earlier been served, adding that final decisions would be undertaken having seen the level of encroachment as regards the setbacks of primary channel and secondary collectors in the areas.

He explained that the commissioner noted that the System 156 Ikota River channel setback was originally 46 metres, while property owners and residents on the corridor have reduced the size.

Mr Wahab also visited Chevron Drive, where he issued a stop work order to Gravitas company, owners of Grace Ville Island and Pocket Island, for sand filling part of Ikota River, thereby reducing the lagoon size from the original 250 metres designed to accommodate the free flow of water.

“The lagoon is a natural path, people have started reclamation to cover up the path and narrow it; you cannot narrow the path of water, if you do, water will naturally create another path and this is dangerous for everyone,” Mr Wahab said.

Mr Adesina said that Mr Wahab had, earlier in the day, supervised the demolition of shanties on Thompson Avenue following petitions by residents that strange faces and ladies of easy virtues were always lining up the streets at night which is a security risk for the whole state and Ikoyi environ, especially.

“At 6 a.m. this morning, we came in and what we saw was unimaginable and we had to pull down these illegal structures, evacuate, make some arrest and charged them to court; by tomorrow we will have full possession of the land,” Mr Wahab said.

He urged all squatters to relocate outrightly as the state is determined to rid the state of shanties and all environmental infractions that dot the landscape, adding, “we will not allow individuals who have no business in the state to become an environmental nuisance and security risk.”

He said the special adviser on environment noted that Lagos, despite its peculiarities as a coastal state with low-lying terrains and a high population density, among others, has remained afloat because of various measures put in place by the government.

He explained that the state government embarked on a comprehensive all-year-round cleaning and maintenance, dredging of drainage channels/canals and constructing new drainages where and when necessary to find a lasting solution to flooding across the state.

He called for the full participation of citizens in governance as well as full participation by the communities and governmental bodies at all levels to achieve great improvements in the environmental sanitation, maintenance and sustainable environment.

Mr Wahab charged Lagosians to respect the state drainage master plan to avoid property demolition.

“We will not allow individuals who have no business in the state to become an environmental nuisance and security risk.”

This final notice should not be disregarded please.

Sincerely, this is a tough decision even for the Lagos state government.

When we go through the right processes in obtaining all the necessary documentation for our property, we take away the burden to take this kind of difficult decision away from the Lagos state Government. Please let us cooperate with Lagos State Government.

In states like Anambra, you will even have to pay the government for the expense Anambra state government incurred in demolishing and removing your property.

Please obey the law in Lagos or stay back in wherever you are and don't bother to relocate to Lagos.

Here in Lagos, the law works. Please don't break the law first and hope to sort (bribe) corrupt officials . You will only push the day of reckoning forward because one day an upright person will take over and check the files meticulously like it's currently happening.

If you are ready to be law abiding, please bring your investments to Lagos state.
God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

They should not wait till the illegal structures are completed before they start to demolish just as the useless FHA is doing. Any ongoing construction that is illegal should be brought down.

BTW, the incompetent FHA should look into the main Festac Town where almost all residential houses (block of flats) at the ground floors have been converted for business activities. Duplexes along the roads aren't spared either. They have almost converted all to commercial centres.
If you grew up at Festac Town in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s and have not been to Festac Town in years, omo you go cry. Almost everyone living in Festac is doing business. Na wa

FHA told them to stop when they were still at foundation level but they said they paid omoonile and continued building in complete disregard to the FHA directive. https://www.nairaland.com/7923242/demolitions-festac-fg-warned-land

This is Lagos state Government and FHA spending a lot of resources and time to fix the problem and at no expense to any of the violators unlike Anambra state government that imposed such expense to serve as deterrent. Perhaps Lagos State Government may soon adopt that to serve as deterrent too like Anambra.

FHA told them to stop building and they continued? That's a lie!! FHA is dreaded in Festac Town if you dunno. You dare not continue building when FHA tells you to stop. I'm very sure some corrupt FHA staff together with Omo Nile sold land to people. As long as it's Festac Town, Omo Nile cannot operate solely

You're admitting that the violators were actively involved and aware.

Whether it is omoonile or corrupt FHA officials, would you believe anyone of them enough to go ahead even when the FHA marked your house for demolition or tells you to stop at the foundation level? You will not do that nah. You will rather err on the side of caution and attempt to cut your losses.

But Mr Wahab sir, Lagos state Sandfilled bar beach and turn it to Eko Atalantic .

Somebody or some agency is currently sandfilling the Lagoon that flows under third mainland bridge at Iyana Oworo .

Ilubirin was sandfilled during Fashola era and they are currently building “ Lagos Homes “ there now.

One question sir; won’t those waters create another paths for themselves?

Anything to make Lagos state great is welcomed.

In other news, read about the:

Greedy Nature And Covetousness For Lagos State

VERY INTERESTING READ

Which Lagos? Is it Lagos as a state or Lagos as a City?

First it was "all land in Lagos belongs to us, we own all the houses and the real estate";
Then "we developed all of Lagos";
then "Lagos is a no man's land";
then "Lagos is not part of Southwest";
Then "Lagos is not a Yoruba land";
Then "Benins are owners of Lagos";
Then "you're not a True indigen of Lagos";
Then "Lagos culture is not the same as the Yoruba Culture";
Then "Lagos is indigenous land of Lagos natives not Yoruba";
Then "Aworis are not Yoruba";
Then "Lagos is a former federal capital so it is not a Yoruba Land";
Then "Lagos is a formal British colony so it belongs to the British";
To them, Lagos belongs to any other tag or people, but not the Yorubas.
(like fetching API data in reactjs)

The Major Problems are:

==> 1. Covetousness:
a. Having or showing a great desire to possess something belonging to someone else.
b. A painful awareness of another's possessions or advantages and a desire to have them too.

Synonyms: jealousy, hatred, resentment, envy, enviousness, invidiousness, malice, enmity, animosity, green-eyed monster, ill will, spitefulness, maliciousness.

==> 2. Greed (or avarice):

==> 3. Mass Megalomania or Grandiose Delusion:
a. The delusional belief that one is important, powerful, or famous, as a form or symptom of mental disorder.
b. Megalomania is a mental disorder characterized by an excessive desire for power and glory and by illusory feelings of omnipotence. It is commonly understood as a psychological condition in which there is an obsession or delusion of grandeur.
c. Delusion of grandeur is the false belief that one is important or powerful, accompanying certain mental disorders. It is also known as paranoid grandiosity. Has subtype called: "narcissistic personality disorder".

CHARACTERISTIC OF: Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Symptoms may vary from person to person. The most common symptoms include:

1. Being overly boastful, exaggerating one’s own achievements
2. Pretending to be superior to others
3. Lack of empathy for others
4. Looking down on others as inferior
5. Monopolising conversations
6. Impatient, angry, unhappy, depressed or has mood swings when criticized
7. Easily disappointed when expected importance is not given
8. Always craves for “the best” in everything
9. Has a very fragile self-esteem
They:
10. Have an unreasonably high sense of self-importance and require constant, excessive admiration.
11. Feel that they deserve privileges and special treatment.
12. Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements.
13. Make achievements and talents seem bigger than they are.
14. Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate.
15. Believe they are superior to others and can only spend time with or be understood by equally special people.
16. Be critical of and look down on people they feel are not important.
17. Expect special favors and expect other people to do what they want without questioning them.
18. Take advantage of others to get what they want.
19. Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others.
20. Be envious of others and believe others envy them.
21. Behave in an arrogant way, brag a lot and come across as conceited.
22. Insist on having the best of everything — for instance, the best car or office.

At the same time, people with narcissistic personality disorder have trouble handling anything they view as criticism. They can:

1. Become impatient or angry when they don't receive special recognition or treatment.
2. Have major problems interacting with others and easily feel slighted.
3. React with rage or contempt and try to belittle other people to make themselves appear superior.
4. Have difficulty managing their emotions and behavior.
5. Experience major problems dealing with stress and adapting to change.
6. Withdraw from or avoid situations in which they might fail.
7. Feel depressed and moody because they fall short of perfection.
8. Have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, humiliation and fear of being exposed as a failure.

Researcher from all over the world should come to Nigeria and help conduct thorough study on this group of people and help us understand as to why their Grandiose delusion is on a massive scale.
