Being an Art Curator is a career that involves working closely with art galleries, museums and most importantly, artists. Art Curators to an extent are storytellers too if you think about it. VOLUNTEER


Volunteering at a gallery or a museum is a great way to get hands on experience in Museum/gallery management and art curation. It doesn’t have to be a large scale gallery or museum, there are hundreds of local galleries perched around Lagos (if you live in Lagos). Find a local gallery and volunteer.


INTERN AT A GALLERY OR MUSEUM


Internships are also good ways to infiltrate into the art business. Through internships, you gain professional experience in the art industry. You could intern at either large scale or small scale museums, depending on the kind of experience you want to get. Who knows, if you show enough determination, willingness to learn and a sense of dedication, they might just take you on board full time.


GET A RELEVANT DEGREE


It may not be enough to volunteer or intern at a museum or gallery. Most art curators have a bachelors degree in Art or Art History or Post Graduate degree in art or specialised arts. If you’re serious about starting a career in Art Curation, it is never too late to get a Post Graduate degree, it takes between a year to three years. However, if getting a Post Graduate degree is not a feasible option, you can always learn online.
