Scholar Raises Concern Over Igbo Exclusive Residential Community In Kano

A Kano-based scholar, Dr. Abdallah Gadon Kaya has raised concern over highbrow residential areas occupied exclusively by Igbos in Kano State noting that such allowance creates a vacuum for disunity. In a video obtained by Arewa Agenda, the scholar who noted that the community located in Zungeru Road, behind Kano Airport said, “they have their massive gates, security and other facilities that prevent other people, especially indigenes from accessing. Government should not allow such to be happening when we can’t go to Onitsha, Aba, or Enugu and create an exclusive place for Northerners or Muslims like that.” Dr. Abdallah, known for his clear stance on topical issues, called on the State Government to promote policies that will harmonize the Hausas and Igbos in the area and bring about peaceful coexistence. “We should not have such exclusive places, the government should ensure there are mosques there and Kano indigenes should be given access to build houses too in such highbrow area,” Gadon Kaya insisted.

Arewa Agenda learned that many people are heeding the call. Speaking on the matter, a Political Commentator and Secretary Arewa Youths Council (AYC), Bello Shehu States that, “It dangerous, especially when some ethnic groups are clamoring for separation from the rest of the country to now allow one tribe to exclusively occupy a highbrow. Even though Arewa people are denied such privileges of owning business premises and estates in Igboland, we need to mix up to promote national unity, tolerance, and brotherhood. That way, we can appreciate each other more and live peacefully together.” Also, a security analyst who would not like to be mentioned states that, “let those from Kano be allowed to buy land and build houses there. Allowing this to continue will create another Igbo land within Kano and this is not good for security reasons otherwise anything can happen, especially with IPOB’s agitations by Nnamdi Kanu for the Biafra Republic and other secessionists “[/b]Once there is a crisis, for example, such place can become a direct target, but with the coexistence, it will be difficult to target one tribe.”

If they want a house in GRA Onitsha they should pay for it and stop the unnecessary jealousy.
It's clear they are just looking for an excuse but this isn't 1966.

Who denied you the privilege of owning business ventures and premises in the south east?

I can relate with him on the bases that such places could be a soft spot for attack during crisis but on the other hand no one is stopping any tribe from purchasing properties in the south.

The huasa/fulani moslems always live in clusters down south maybe for fear of repraisal when their brethren launch a jihad in the north.
Igbos are patriotic and free minded, reasons they spread all over nigeria acquiring properties.
But the quota system and born to rule mentality is the genesis of all the agitations today.

Shebi you refuse to acknowledge that they develop their host communities? Now you are begging to come and join them where they have already developed. Oga, go and look for another area and develop.

Are the people selling the lands not indigenes? Is there any physical or paper barrier preventing indigenes from building there or going there? If there's any, I bet it'll be cost of purchasing land which was not decided by the Igbo occupants

These northerners can never be useful. Other tribes would go there and convert some area's into a livable environment, and all they do is to ask the government to grant them assess to live in those areas. How? Is it that the government should force a landlord over there to give you a flat? Or that the government should bring the whole kanu state into a small area. Nobody stops anyone from living anywhere. Just hold your money, buy a house or rent one, and live. No restrictions. Stop acting like everything should be given to you free of charge.

I hardly understand these people. Are they trying to say that the indigenes are denied land in their backyard? The same lies they have been peddling against the Igbos in the SE. The truth is the price and competition which they can't compete.
Re: Scholar Raises Concern Over Igbo Exclusive Residential Community In Kano by History555: 4:57pm On Jun 24, 2021
Anyone reading this and who don't know this place will conclude only lgbos stay there. All tribes in the south stay here. I wonder why he singled out lgbos or is this a case of everyone from the South is lgbo.
In the north, southerners live together in one for security reasons just as northerners live together in an area in the South e.g. alaba rago, idi araba etc. Most northerners won't stay there because they will fill out of place

The average Igbo man seems blessed with great idea. Guess it's time they study their ways of life in schools too. Probably, our crave for white collar jobs will give way to enterprising way of life.

He made no sense because most of the land in this location are owned by hausas who sold it to southerners. Also there is vacant lands owned by same hausa people for sale. So if he is calling kano govt to give him land. The question is whose land. Is it lands belonging to hausa people that will b given to him
