The range of accessories for dogs is continually growing. In the past, dog owners generally only had a bed and a feeder or drinker. There are many complementary accessories so that your furry is perfectly equipped.

Generally, you will find more than 4000 items that will drive everyone crazy. The assortment is extensive: large or small feeders, long or short leashes, leather or nylon collars… But how can you decide? We offer you a summary of the necessary products to have essential equipment.

Dog accessories: beds and baskets

It is an essential accessory that every dog should have at home. To make him feel comfortable, it is best to have a basket or a bed for dogs, which you can find in different shapes and sizes. Also, there are various models with original designs that will surely catch all eyes in the house.

Feeders and drinkers

All furry animals need a drinking fountain and a dog bowl. Many of these accessories have a heavy base to prevent your furry from tipping them over easily. Its structure is comprehensive in the lower area and narrower in the upper area. Besides, they can be made of plastic, stainless steel, or ceramic. For large dogs, high or supported feeders and drinkers are recommended to avoid back problems.

Collars

There is a great diversity of dog collars of different shapes and designs. However, you must make sure that you choose the right size collar that fits your dog's dimensions.

Straps

The leash must correspond to the dog's measurements and be comfortable for the owner to carry by hand. It has to be strong enough so that it won't break when the dog starts. Simple nylon or leather leashes are suitable for small dogs. Also, the strap should be the appropriate length to give you freedom of movement. An extendable or automatic dog leash, such as the Flexi brand, can be a good option. On the other hand, medium or large-sized dogs require more robust leashes and an adjustable length of at least two meters.

Toys

Games help the dog maintain mental balance and strengthen its relationship with the owner. Most of these accessories for dogs are made of vinyl or solid rubber. Caution is required with small dog toys, as they can get stuck in the animal's throat and, in the worst case, lead to suffocation. This can also be the case with throwing and fetching games. Instead, discs are entirely harmless.

The importance of motivation in dog tricks

Mutual trust, reliability, and clear orders are the basis of success to raise a dog; the same happens to the dog to learn little tricks. But to get your dog excited about new rules of the game and tricks, something more is needed. Although some dog breeds have an innate desire to please, they are also a bit selfish, knowing that desired behavior will bring them advantages. In contrast, unwanted behaviors are ignored or even punished. It is possible to observe how dogs of breeds that are considered stubborn think if heeding the order of their caretaker will bring them some reward or not.

Before starting dog tricks training

The basis for successful training of the following ten dog tricks is for your dog to obey basic commands like "sit," "slam," and "stay." Don't start the tricks before your dog safely executes these commands. Make sure the time to start training is right. If the quadruped is tired or hungry, he will likely show little interest in performing the feats. It is also essential that you let him rest after eating to digest his food well. You are sure to be excited to start the practice when you are satiated and rested.

Dog Tricks

Give the paw

A classic among the tricks for dogs and that serve as the basis for other exercises is to give the paw. Although this trick seems easy to learn, it requires a bit of patience (and a few snacks) until your dog responds to the command with both legs.

High five or say hi

High five is a very casual gesture and is no longer used just to express success in sports. It's no wonder this dog trick is becoming increasingly popular with dogs. If your dog has mastered pawing, this exercise will learn it reasonably quickly.

Here's how to do it:

Put your hand vertically (not horizontally like when you give the leg) and say the command, "give me the leg." Give it a treat as soon as your dog lifts his leg and touches your hand vertically with his paw. He's probably a bit confused at first because you're rewarding him without your furry having his paw on your hand, but over time he'll get used to this new exercise. As soon as it has become a bit routine, you can add the command "high five" or "high five."

Later you can try it from a distance. Move far away from your dog during the exercise so that when he raises his paw, he reaches out to touch your hand. Reward him as soon as he lifts his leg, as he will learn that that is enough. So when you are away and raise your hand vertically, he will raise his leg and greet you.

Get on two legs

One of the most popular tricks for dogs is to get on two legs in which the dog is sitting and raises its front legs, putting the weight on its back. Depending on the dog's agility, it may take a while for the dog to balance in this position. The important thing is that your furry stays seated on his butt.

Touch an object

This dog trick's objective is for the dog to touch an object with its paw and throw it. Once this is mastered, he can even be taught to leg a door.

Here's how:

Put an exciting object (like a plastic bottle or a stuffed animal) on the ground and have your dog focus on it.

Wait to see what happens. If your dog approaches and touches the object with his paw, you should praise him and give him a treat.

Repeat this process by showing him an item and praise him as soon as he touches it with his paw.

The next day you can enter the command «tap.» Whenever your dog touches the object, say the word "touch." After a couple of days, you will have internalized that signal and apply it to other items.

Roll

Starting from the command «lie down,», the dog should turn on its back until it returns to the initial position, lying on its belly. Since dogs do not like to lie on their back, this exercise requires a lot of skill and some patience. Of course, rewards with treats help, especially those that your dog likes a lot but does not often receive.

Crawl

It's fun to watch your dog crawl on the ground, brushing his belly and moving slowly. It may take a few workouts for your dog to master this trick, as crawling is not a natural movement for dogs.

Here's how to do it:

Have your furry lie down and kneel beside him. Place your hand gently on his back, and with the other hand, you place the snack in front of his mouth. Now slowly move your hand away with the treat. If your dog wants to get up to chase the reward, gently press him to the ground while you say the command "drag" or another similar word.

An otterhound sheds a lot. Most of the hair sticks to the coat. This means that a shedding dog will be a nuisance. But most Otterhounds will not bite you unless they are forced to. For more information about otterhound breed visit on hyperlinked site.
