As their tradition goes, the  Reformed Ogboni Fraternity of Nigeria (ROFN) will only have their inner caucus as members of the Imo State cabinet since the Governor elect is a patron in the society.

But note it does not in any way stop them from performing, in fact they will perform better than members of the Okija Shrine in Abia State cabinet.

As long he doesn't turn our purse into his personal one like the wonky eyed Ohakim did with our money, he can Ogbonize and fraternize as he wishes. I will be very happy if Rochas will swear to all the "OFO" in IGBOLAND that he wont steal our penny or allow anyone else to do so.

Those like Ohakim that sweared an oath with the Bible/Koran and even slept with the copies of it nd sang the meaningless national anthem/pledge like canaries, look at how far the oath has catch up them. NOTHING HAPPENED TO THEM.

What a politician chose to do in his private life in the matters of spirituality and matters of the heart is the person business. Imo people did not chose him to lead them in a spiritual journey but to give them the best of ammenities from their sweat, through the taxes they paid.

So if this Ogboni nonesense is what you can come out with, then you better go and find something more meaningful. One of the biggest obstacle to progress in our land now is meaningless religious zealousness, even robbers and kidnappers say their prayers before going out to kill others and thank their "god" if they come back as a sign of answer to their prayers.

Nice spot my good friend. I knew he the fool that had been disturbing us with Ohakim for months now with a new name. My appeal to all Imo people is to keep their eyes open as they will now loot the state before they are officially send into exile.

This is so hilarious. I wonder y the OP is being insulted afterall its an open secret that the Owelle is a member of the incorporated fraternity. His membership neva stopped him from doin well as an individual so I hope he also does well as the Governor regardless of his religious affiliation but its only rational to deduce that Imo ppl might just have an Ogboni dominated cabinet. Now u know y Southern Nigeria is usually described as bein predominantly Xtian and Animist! Lol
Re: Ogboni To Make Up Rochas Okorocha Cabinets by Nobody: 3:34pm On May 07, 2011
It is up to Rochas who he chooses to socialise with. So long as their is no evidence of him engaging in crime then no need for the rumours.

But this is exactly how the rumour mills begin. This was how Ohakim became a Kidnapper, 419 bla bla bla . . . .now Rochas is Ogboni.

When will anybody criticise any of these leaders on their economics or social services policies?

ndigbo on nairaland , this is how you ridicule yourselves, tomorrow if a yorubaman use the same thing against you you start shouting tribalism , have you people not learn how to keep your mouth shut? na waa. keep bad mouthing all your leaders from peter obi, orji.ohakim, akunyeli, and now rochas wey never even enter. tomorrow you will want to present the same people as presidential candidates and expect others regions to vote for them.

pls learn to shut up

I agree nigerians (especially southerners, irrespective of tribe) do not know how to shut up.
Re: Ogboni To Make Up Rochas Okorocha Cabinets by kcjazz(m): 6:03pm On May 07, 2011
haha! I would prefer an Ogboni Rochas than a "born again" Christian Ohakim who loots and flogs Rev Fathers any time any day. This is just part 1, May 29 will be time for EFCC turn to pick up Ohakim.

Ohakim lost when he flogged the priest, he could have rigged his way in if he didn't do that. Don't mess with my people's religion
Re: Ogboni To Make Up Rochas Okorocha Cabinets by Pukkah: 6:24pm On May 07, 2011
Nigerians, let's try to focus on issues please. Is it a crime to be an Ogboni member? I do not have any problem with a man's religion in as much as he can perform in office.

I wish you well Rochas!

Very well written!! There is limit to self criticisms. The appalling act of self-destruct which strives in the form of “exposing the wrong” is very common among the Ndigbo in particular and southerners in general.

I have noticed the self-destruction mentality of many Igbos as well.

That is why we need to stand united against this type.

I and God forbid my state being led by Ogboni cabals! Thank God I am not from IMO or SE.

In any case, I wish imolites all the best. Remember, a people gets the leaders they deserve!

May God strengthen the imo people to enable them choose leaders who will govern them with reverential fear, bring true development with God's wisdom rather than satan's greek "sunesis".

It seems imolites have traded a 'snake' for the 'tortoise' - God have mercy!

Please don't speak too soon, because the governor of Osun state is introduced as Ogboni or Ogbeni Rauf Aregbosola. I don't see that stopping him performing for the people of Osun state.
Re: Ogboni To Make Up Rochas Okorocha Cabinets by Kilode1: 11:16pm On May 07, 2011
Just quotes:

"The Ogboni, headed by the Oluwo, was the third force(Third realm). Like the Oyo Mesi(kingmakers), the Alaafin(King) had little or no hand in the appointment of the Ogbonis, who were elected by the various lineages or noble families" -Oladipo Okege

"The Ogboni Society really holds the reins of government, and kings themselves are obliged to submit to its decrees. The members are popularly believed to possess a secret from which they derive their power, but their only secret appears to be that of a powerful and unscrupulous organisation, each member of which is bound to assist every other, while all are bound to carry out, and if necessary enforce, the decrees of the body" [like the Ancient Roman Senate?]

Though versions or lodges of this fraternal group are found among the various types of Yoruba polities——from highly-centralized kingdoms and empires like Oyo, to the independent towns and villages of the Ègbá and the Èkiti——the Ogboni are recognizable for their veneration of the personified earth (Ilè or Odua) and their emphasis on gerontocratic authority and benevolent service to the town. While membership in the Ogboni generally signified a high level of power and prestige, the society held pre-eminent political authority among decentralized groups like the Ègbá, where they were intimately involved in the selection of regents. To date, Ogboni members still command great power and influence in the affairs of the nation -Wikipedia (unverified)

excerpt from an interesting Ogboni Refugee law case:
Having reviewed the objective  materials before us, the Tribunal concludes that the Adjudicator reached entirely correct conclusions concerning the scope and power of the Ogboni cult in Nigeria.  As he found, and as paragraph 6.120 of the latest CIPU Report makes clear, the Ogboni are “a secret society of the Yoruba tribe”.   One of the sources cited for that conclusion in the CIPU Report is a letter of March 1998 from Dr B. Akintunde Oyetade of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.  Dr Oyetade is, in fact, the author of a report on the Ogboni Society prepared on behalf of the  Appellant in connection with these Tribunal proceedings (pages 100-106 of  the Appellant’s bundle).  There is nothing in that report that can be cited as authority for the proposition that the Ogboni have any significant (or, indeed any) membership drawn from tribes other then the Yoruba.  Furthermore paragraph 6.124 of the April 2004
CIPU Report contains the statement that “the Ogboni is believed to be a purely Yoruba cult, but there are a number of Yoruba sub-tribes who also may be involved”.
The source cited for this proposition, which in any event is little more than a reiteration of the point that emerges from paragraph 6.120, is “The Yoruba Ogboni cult in Oyo” by Peter Morton Williams

interesting info on Good vs Evil and the concept of duality in Yoruba Philosophy:
Yoruba philosophy is not based on the European concept of good and evil with all life forces (ase) having the potential to be either good or bad. This balance between opposing forces is maintained in other opposites such as; male/female, dark/light, left/right, silence/noise, nature/culture, action/inaction. This philosophy based on tension between opposing forces manifests itself in the occurrence of duality in many Yoruba artworks. I will look further into the way in which this duality manifests itself within the Efe/Gelede and Ogboni cults concentrating mainly on the opposing forces existing between male and female.

In Yoruba kingdoms the "Oba" does not hold absolute power but the power is limited to the almost equal power of the Ogboni elders. The Ogboni elders consists of the oldest and wisest members of the community. The Ogboni is a secret society and its members can be either male or female. The Ogboni cult worships "Onile" (owner of the earth) and the Ogboni will often intervene where a dispute arises and blood has been spilled on the ground. They will resolve the dispute and cleanse the space where the sacred earth has been stained by the spill of blood.

It is believed that the secret of the society is its members knowledge of a primordial unity which transcends the opposing forces that characterizes human experience (fagg 1982:186). This unity is emblemized by the unification of opposing forces to create a third and more powerful force. The Ogboni oath "two members becomes three" also emphasizes this idea of unification.

Christianity says; One becomes Three (Trinity)

Ogboni says: Two becomes three (Trinity)

Physics: Three dimensional space? just wondering  wink

That's all cool

Sorry for derailing ya thread folks. . .

I really dont know much about this Rochas man other than the orchestrated campaigns and publicized philanthropic gestures across the country. I started hearing of him in say about 8 years ago when he contested for the presidential slot. My impression of him is that he really is seeking for power by all means. He wants to rule and if the federal level is unreachable then the state level must suffice. From my observation of the man's mien I can tell he is a charismatic youngman who will bring some dynamic changes to the state whether for good or for bad I can not say but I can only say it will be somewhat like the IBB era, chop I chop government.
We need to know his economic blueprint to put Imo state on auto pilot run for greatness. Having said that may I also ask where did Ohakim go wrong. I know the Imo people are impatient lot, ones the dividends are not rolling in as soon as possible they get frustrated and demand change. Ohakim played into their hands by going beyond the boundaries to deal  with the electorate whom he will eventually need. From his clean and green initiative I think he had a vision which was hijacked by the hawks in PDP for their selfish interest.
All we can all do now is to join hands with Rochas to move the state forward and to ensure that he is constantly reminded tht the Imo people decisively voted for him because they believe in him, he should not dance to the tunes of a few cabal in APGA or the whims of any cult group. He has the back of the Imo people solidly behind him. He must work he has no option.
