Confusion is rising as two separate primaries for the People’s Democratic Party in Anambra held simultaneously to pick a candidate to stand for governorship elections on November 6.

A faction of the party is currently accrediting delegates at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, while other faction is also holding a similar exercise at the Paul University playground in Awka.

Daily Trust gathered that while the event at Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre is by a faction of the party formerly led by Ndubuisi Nwob.

The one at Paul University is led by Chukwudi Umeaba and loyalists to self-styled godfather of the state’s politics, Chris Uba.

A tangible number of influential aspirants are at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre for the primary election.

But the Umeaba faction has also massively mobilized party members, but the faction was yet to receive any aspirants.

Umeaba told Daily Trust at the venue, “We will start soon we’re waiting for our aspirants to arrive. Quite a number of them will be here soon”

A source in the party who didn’t want his name in print said some members of the party are already preparing grounds that will enable them go to court to contest the election of a candidate from any faction not favourable to them.

“Most of the aspirants you see in the other faction also belong to this faction. Some of the aspirants are waiting to pick the ticket of one faction, and when they can’t, they will still come here. This disunity is not good for our party.”

Uba has said his faction is working according to the directive of court as supported by Independent national electoral commission INEC.

He said that he is only holding the primary because Umeaba is the only PDP in the state recognised by the law, noting that any person could hold illegal primary but could not stand .

Chris uba should go and rest, the days when he lorded it over Anambra politics is long gone.

I can't really understand this periodic problems affecting the PDP on a yearly basis & sometimes I wonder if it's because of bad leadership at almost all levels or if it's a curse on the party & it's members or if it is greed or if there are unseen third forces or it is their destiny not to be United.
