Serving the Lord to a lot of people means working as a clergy, evangelist, missionary, and being involved in any type of work in God’s vineyard. This is not the total truth. The fact is that we are all God’s servants (Psalm 119:91). This implies any honest and good work/job one is involved in no matter the name and classification and location with or without salary, as long as it is for the glory of God and for the benefit of humanity and creation as a whole is service unto God.

The earth and heaven are the handwork of God, and belong to Him and He has ultimate rule and care over it (Genesis Chapter 1). However, He delegated some of His authority and care of the earth and all He created in it to man whom He created in His own image and likeness and equipped with abilities, strength, talents for the different tasks with the charge, “be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Genesis 1:28). This implies we (humans) are His assigned co-workers, his workmanship and tenants of His landed property (Psalm 119: 91; Eph. 2:10). Work is our reasonable service unto God and humanity. What a great opportunity and responsibility!

Although, some consider specific jobs to be more superior or honorable than others, this is not so. For every work that one is involved in that is good, honest, and does not hurt another, provides shelter over one’s head, puts food on one’s table and cloth on one’s back is important and an honorable job and is as good as the other. All jobs are important. Anywhere one does any work or the other for one self and others be it at home, office, market, field, hospital, church, school, farm and several other places is one’s office. The overall Paymaster is God and He will judge and pay everyman according to his/her work (Eccl.12: 14; Rev 20:13; Col 3:23-25).

Therefore, God specified how He wanted us to carry out our services unto Him. God commanded that we serve him with all our heart and soul, doing all things unto him in love, righteousness, fear, humility and gladness (Deuteronomy 11:13; Psalm 100:2-3). This implies it is expected of us all as God’s servants to be glad, diligent, humble, righteous, hardworking and faithful in whatever capacity we serve giving no room to complaining, murmuring, laziness, pride, wickedness and unfaithfulness.

How can we achieve this?

We can accomplish this by being in an attitude of gratitude as we carry out our jobs as charged by Apostle Paul, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to god and the father by him.” (Col. 3:17). Gratitude of heart energizes one for service; it keeps the body healthy and strong, and the heart rejoicing. Gratitude leads to commitment, loyalty and faithfulness. Everyman is expected to humble faithful and to rejoice in his work by being thankful unto God for our work.

It is a great privilege to have something doing, to have the strength, wisdom, and ability to do it. Knowing that some who are better than us who wished to be able to do what we do but are not so privileged or opportune, or strong to do so would make us appreciate our work. It is therefore important that we are grateful to God for all He enables us to do.

As we carry out our duties in the consciousness of God, with great rejoicing and thanksgiving, worship takes place. Actually worship as our duty implies using every aspect of our lives and doings exclusively to minister to God.

No one can ever gain anything tangible from any job/work by complaining and murmuring about it but by being grateful for it. No one can be committed and faithful in any job one does not love or is not happy about. Appreciate God for your work because promotion comes only from Him.

Have you thanked God for your Job today? Your complaining and grumbling about what you are doing could be the reason you are still marking time on one spot? Be glad and appreciate God for that job that feeds you and takes care of your daily needs.

When you do your work in gratitude and as unto the Lord, you would put in your very best either you are being watched or not. Commit whatever you are doing unto the Lord and be grateful and you shall be blessed.
How grateful are you unto God for that job you are doing?

GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I.
