What could be behind this massive failure in JAMB?

To my Foreign Friends "JAMB" is the qualifying exam to Nigerian Universities.

A lot of factors involve that resulted in this mass failure:

�Students of now don't like reading their books. They hate reading. Some of them do not even know the importance of education to themselves and to the society.

�High computer illiteracy in the North. The JAMB exam is with the use of computers to answer questions on key subjects. Some of the students do not know the difference between a keyboard and a mouse.

�A lot of junk distractions. With the spread of internet and social media platforms like TickTok & IG, some students like watching slay queens and Rappers dancing than read their books.

�Lack of good government policy and effort. Governance in Nigeria is not about service delivery but about looting the public treasury.

�Children of the extremely wicked and corrupt Nigerian ruling elite do not write JAMB. Their parents usually send them to Western Universities.

Conclusion

This mass failure is a wake up call to government, parents and students.

Jamb had always been hard. Some of us wrote jamb more than 5 times back then but when I look back now, I wouldn't have written anything if I had known

I remember in 2005 reaching my centre when some people were already submitting their answer sheets. I had only 30 minutes to write.

Thanks to that male supervisor who allowed me to do copy and paste from one kind hearted brilliant girl..

I ended up scoring 236.

I wonder how students even create time for their studies when they are hooked on social media addiction.

Thank God I graduated before the advent of social media.

Any child you see score over 190 these days,please hug him/her...He/she is the genius of this generation.
The children we produce these days don't have any business with school again.
Just arrange an exam about #nairaMarley, boyfriend,girlfriend,taking pictures,pornograhy,bbnaija & you will see them come out in flying colours...
You will be seeing headlines like "out of 1,033,729 who sat for the examination only 2,966 scored less than 400 in jamb"

Yes, Grace is God allowing you to cheat the system. It's a divine way of cheating.

Oga,I do not agree with most of your points especially your point on social media,it has been very helpful for most of us
I am constantly online on Nairaland,Twitter,Instagram and WhatsApp
Also,in my street,I am the odogwu of football,it's not possible for them to be playing ball without me


Upon all these,I still knew my priorities and used my head. I wrote JAMB last year for the first time.I got 266 and I have just been admitted to study law in UNILAG

Stop all these rubbish talk,no be social media make anybody fail..infact,I had no notes,it was the constant revision on WhatsApp groups,waec and jamb past questions online that really helped me

JAMB are just making money with students. Believe me!

The number one cause is constant visit to nairaland. Many of them are littered all over nairaland.

Number 2 cause is too much pressing of phone. To pick their books and read has become a Herculean task.

Covid lockdown really did a lot in the minds of these kids. Some totally lost interest in education

As an adult here is what I think.

I don't dis credit others contribution, but from a political side here is what the mass failure means.

owners of private university will enjoy, because they don't use jamb.

the government wants to reduce the number of unemployed graduates in Nigeria.

they want to make tertiary education attractive again. ease of entry is making education look like a scam, we value difficult thing. its human nature

There's nothing like mass failure, it's a reflection of the lack of seriousness with academic studies.

There's never a time JAMB was easy neither will there ever be. Using CBT eliminates quite a lot of errors and time wasting when writing the exam compared to writing with pen and paper.

I personally smashed my SIL mobile phone because of lack of seriousness with her studies.

This generation of youths are so distracted with misplaced priorities.

When high population goes over one thing, it gets difficult, after secondary school I knew I had to hustle. Today it's paying off meanwhile i would have been in the university wasting my time.

Schooling abroad is different. Nigerian educational system is wack.

You are absolutely right. If I had known what I know now, my path would have been different.
I guess it's just life and nothing is absolutely certain.

you want people to take school serious in nigeria when ASUU is not serious and the govt continue to allocate more fuds to their welfares than education and health?

jamb is trash, it should be scrapped and let the institutions conduct the exams the way they want it, simple

imagine the billions of naira that was realized from the sales of jamb form, money that wont be account for in few months time cos comodo dragon swallowed it.

buhari is a disaster, 2023 seems like 23 years to come, so many depressing situations keep cropping out every seconds

i would just advise any one seeing this my post that failed jamb to go and learn hand work, barbing, sewing, catering, shoe making, what ever craft you can learn and not waste your time to go to polytechnics or wait till next year

if only i knew what i know now about nigerian school systems...i would have concentrated on my sewing skills and perfected it then hustle for two years and look for ways to leave this dead country..but no i went to a polytechnic because i elt there was no need to lobby my ways into unilorin, after i beat their jamb cut off, but as faith would have it, unilorin nack me akpako and i had to settle for poly, which i later regretted

imagine all these jambites that failed woefully, they will definitely be depressed because their aspirations were cut short by a system thats not working effectively.

Wahala! Things are so bad in this country that even jambites are failing woefully.
