After considering the part of affordability when choosing any service or product to purchase, one other point to consider is getting an affirmative answer to how reliable the product or service is.
The number of subscribers on the DStv network, which keeps growing, lays credence to the entertainment giant’s reliability as a source of entertainment to everyone in the family irrespective of age and interest. The reliability is not only peculiar to services accessible through a decoder, subscribers that choose the streaming option can also count on how the service is consistently of good quality.
Unlike other players in the cable-tv industry in Nigeria, DStv periodically upgrades its system for better service delivery to its subscribers. And interestingly, these upgrades don’t prevent people from accessing content on its platforms which points to the fact that DStv takes quality service delivery seriously anytime.
The pan-African media giant is riding on technology to provide better services to its subscribers in Nigeria as well as its other markets. There’s also the part of the large war chest for content creation and distribution geared towards better service delivery to subscribers across all its platforms.
MultiChoice has “enriching lives” as one of its pillars which is evident in products, services, as well as corporate social responsibilities.
Earlier in the year, Calvo Mawela, CEO of MultiChoice Group, in a CNN interview, revealed that the company spends over US$145 million annually on local content creation across the continent.
The entertainment powerhouse has, over the years, been making efforts towards ensuring continuous reliability of its services to subscribers. Some of these efforts include using mobile technology like the DStv Now that was launched as a mobile-first product for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The company has since dropped the “Now” in the name of the product and is now available for smart television as well.
The product allows subscribers to access DStv online anywhere and anytime at no additional cost to the subscribers.
The number of smartphones in Nigeria that was 23.3 million in 2019 is expected to be 154 million by 2025. This can be considered as a great opportunity for entertainment service providers like DStv who have been using technology, including mobile, over the years to provide quality service and at the convenience of its subscribers.
DStv is riding on the fact that Nigeria, like other countries in Africa, is a mobile-first market by designing its offerings accordingly.
Beyond trying to serve the customers at their convenience, no other cable-TV platform in Nigeria is investing heavily into local content production like DStv.
As of 2012, the Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce affirmed that DStv had invested $200 million (about ₦31 billion, according to the exchange then) in developing local skills, technology transfer, local workforce, and production of local content. This is outside the $2.1 billion (about ₦800 billion in 2019’s exchange rate) that Accenture, an accounting and consulting firm in Nigeria, estimated to be DStv’s contribution to Nigeria’s economy between 2015 and 2019.
In his comment about the company’s $2.1 billion contribution to the economy, MultiChoice Nigeria CEO, John Ugbe affirmed that the entertainment giant has a responsibility towards providing socio-economic value through its core business activities in the country.
Beyond the figure quoted by Accenture, Ugbe in a 2020 interview revealed that the company had invested about Seventy Million Dollars towards developing the Nigerian Football League over the course of seven years.
All MultiChoice Nigeria’s efforts point to the fact that the company wants to keep ensuring that its customers always have access to quality content that is also delivered hassle-free.

Eventually, the will loss grand for a better technology. The subscribers has been complaining while they don't listen and they keep increasing their prices every 6 months.

Someday, youtube will start streaming live matches. We have some service that are very consistent and also very affordable.
