The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened a portal where intending voters can register before they complete the process at a designated centre.This portal allows you to Update Your voter registration information, Pre-Register as a new voter, Transfer your voter registration to another polling unit, Replace your damaged or lost PVC and find Registration Centres near you.

INEC Continuous Voters Registration Portal - cvr.inecnigeria.org

On the portal, you can pre-register as a new voter or review your voter registration status if you have registered in the past. This is an easy step for you to follow and register self online.

The review includes requesting to update your information or transfer your voter registration to another polling unit if you have relocated.

Registered voters can also correct their personal details, request for replacement of damaged or defaced permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) on the portal.

Intending voters are only required to fill the forms on the portal with their biodata and required documents, after which will visit an INEC state or LGA office.

At the INEC offices which they can visit from July 19, they will be requested to give their fingerprints to complete the registration.

INEC - Continuous Voters Registration Eligibility and Guidelines for all

The registration exercise is for the following categories of Nigerians:

Those who are 18 years and above and have not registered previously.

1. Registered voters who have had any problem during accreditation for any past election, with either their
2. Permanent Voters’ Cards or their fingerprints not being read by the Smart Card Reader.
3. Registered voters who want to transfer their voting location from one place to another.
4. Registered voters who want to correct issues with their data, such as misspelt names, dates of birth, etc.
5. Registered voters whose PVCs are lost or damaged.

INEC Continuous Voters Registration - how to Register Online
1. Prospective registrants are to go online to perform a pre-registration using the INEC URL: https://cvr.inec.gov.ng or https://cvr.inecnigeria.org

2. Registrant shall first create an account on the portal using a valid email address to enable him/her to commence the pre-registration process

3. Upon creating the account, an account activation link will be sent to the email address provided during account registration

4. Click on the provided link to activate and continue with your pre-registration

5. Each registrant shall fill an online form with the relevant and necessary information

6. After filling the form, the registrant shall select a convenient date and time when he would want to visit the registration centre for biometric capture to complete his/her registration.

7. The registrant shall click on the submit button to complete his/her pre-registration, and after a successful submission, an Application Slip containing his/her Application ID, a QR code and relevant details will be generated

8. Print your Application Slip, which contains an application number, QR Code, and other details

9. Visit an INEC registration centre on the scheduled date of appointment with the printed application slip for biometric capture

10. A Registration slip will be issued to you after the successful completion of your registration to be used to collect your Permanent Voters' Card (PVC)


Meanwhile, those who are already registered as voters can also carry out all the other activities such as transfers, correction of personal details and replacement of damaged or defaced PVCs online.

Online registration free of charge
The online portal, according to INEC, is a public service and therefore free of charge. All that is needed is a mobile device that can connect to the internet.

Professor Mahmood added that INEC has acquired all the equipment for the voter registration and has also planned for the deployment of 5,346 staff to the registration centres.

Among the equipment he mentioned is a new registration machine called the INEC voter enrolment device (IVED) which will replace the laptop-based old direct data capture machine (DDCM).

I tried to register, but can't take any photo. The error message: "Webcam.js Error: Could not access webcam..." I have tried chrome, firefox, and explorer, and tried using 2 different laptops.
