Okechukwu Eme and Ogbochie Andrew in their article "THE LEGAL/CONSTITUTION BASIS OF POLITICAL PARTY DEFECTION IN NIGERIA" clearly defined a defector as a person who gives up allegiance to one state in exchange for allegiance to another, in a way that is considered illegitimate by the first state.
