Nwude and Ribadu

The development followed their alleged involvement in conspiracy and offering of gratification, while the matter will come up before Justice Kayode Ogunmekan.

The accused are being arraigned on a six -count charge that borders on alleged conspiracy and offering of bribes to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and the commission’s Director of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Larmonde.

The duo was alleged to have offered bribes of $70,000 and £21,000 to Ribadu.

The alleged offering of gratification to Ribadu was to enable the EFCC boss to assist them in the matter involving Nwude, who was being investigated for defrauding a Brazilian bank, Banco Noroeste of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The accused were also said to have offered N500, 000 to the EFCC‘s Director of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Larmonde.

The offence is contrary to Section 9 of the ICPC Act and punishable under Section 26 (1) (c) of the said ICPC Act.

Nwude had earlier been convicted and sentenced to five years by Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Ikeja High Court on July 15, 2005.

Nwude, Edeh Okoli and Mrs. Amaka Anajemba had been brought to court by the EFCC on the biggest financial scam, following their alleged involvement in $242m scam against a Brazilian banker, Mr. Nelson Sakaguchi and his bank, Banco Noroeste, SA Sao Paulo of Brazil.

The six- count charge against the accused, which was made available to our correspondents on Sunday, reads in part:

- Emmanuel Ofulue (M) and Emmanuel Nwude (M) on or about the 16th May, 2003 at Lagos state within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court conspired with each other to corruptly give the sum of £21,000 to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions in order for him to assist in the investigation involving Emmanuel Nwude who was then being investigated by the EFCC for defrauding Banco Noroeste S.A., Sao Paulo, Brazil.

- Emmanuel Ofulue (M) and Emmanuel Nwude (M) on or about the 16th May, 2003 at Lagos state within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court corruptly gave the sum of £21,000 to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions in order for him to assist in the investigation involving Emmanuel Nwude who was then being investigated by the EFCC for defrauding Banco Noroeste S.A., Sao Paulo, Brazil.

- Emmanuel Ofulue (M) and Emmanuel Nwude (M) on or about the 8th December, 2003 at Lagos state within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court conspired with each other to corruptly give the sum of $70,000 to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions in order for him to assist in the investigation involving Emmanuel Nwude, who was then being investigated by the EFCC for defrauding Banco Noroeste S.A., Sao Paulo, Brazil, among others.

How many people will sell their integrity and took the easy way out?  Ribadu should be commended for this

Nigerians don't like all these sorts of heroic stories. They prefer tragedies. They want to hear that Ribadu was caught with a briefcase containing $1 million crossing the border to Cameroun.

Up Ribadu.

His records will take a long time to be erased even with the so called selective fight against corruption which by the way is 100% better than no fight at all.
