Southampton are believed to be ‘100% confident‘ in completing a season-long loan deal for Manchester United defender Brandon Williams.

Saints have been after the full-back for some time, and this summer will be the third time they have attempted to bring him to St Mary’s.

According to an article in The Athletic, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is becoming increasingly optimistic that he will have his man before the start of the new Premier League season in 2021/22.

The two clubs have yet to agree on a loan fee, but Saints are hopeful that they will be able to complete the transaction as soon as possible.

Williams, who has made 50 appearances for United in all competitions, wants to leave Old Trafford in order to improve his chances of receiving regular playing time.

Despite the fact that Saints just purchased French left-back Romain Perraud, the 20-year-old was only allowed 14 appearances last season, according to the source, he has been promised by the management that he would be given an opportunity to show himself.

Williams has a contract with United until 2024, having resumed to pre-season training with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on Monday.

He will be an important addition to Hasenhuttl’s Southampton backline as the club looks to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish in the Premier League standings.

If Williams joins, he will compete for a starting place with Perraud and Kyle Walker-Peters.
